Don't know what to do

Recently I went to dr for one health concern. Then discovered through incidental finding that: I one kidney may be working at higher percentage than the other. Special exam was done Renal with Lasix. I was told my Creatnine is 70 and my E GFR is >60. Also that I had a mild prolonged cortical phase in the right kidney. I'm lost I don't know what this all means. My urologist whom I have only seen 3 times said we will repeat exam in 6 months and monitor. Im baffled what do I do. Can I protect my kidneys somehow between now and the next exam? What am I to do? No one has told me what to eat or not to eat etc. .. I weight 147 and am 5'2 my cholesterol is 219 and LDL is 154 snf A1C! is 6.0 I have to reduce all these numbers I was told by my primary even before I found out about the incidental finding of one of my kidneys. Can someone tell me if I should be trying to speak to someone or am I just supposed to sit and weight for the next exam in 6 months it just does nt seem like I should be doing that. I was only told to try to keep hydrated. They also saw a small kidney stone and I don't even know what to do prevent them and what to eat or not to eat. Can someone just give me any tips or suggestions?

You don’t have a to panic, keep monitoring every 6 months, your numbers are fine. Stay away from NSAIDs, and eat healthy.

Thank you so much for responding to my post. I just felt like I was not given any guidance as to what to do next until my next exam. I also had read that people with any kidney issue should probably limit protein. Therefore I was also trying to figure out ok so what's meant by limit is it a certain amount. I didnt know what to do. I have lost weight sinceNov. I weighted 183. But, I was exercising and eating healthy here and there. But, then Jan.2024 I had some pain in my stomach and then stopped exercising and well after ultrasounds and other exams the dr.s had the incidental finding of my kidneys and said it had nothing to do with my stomach discomfort. Thats when I also discovered that my IgA is deficient . something to that effect. So thats why I have been worried. I felt like no one was really giving me guidance as to what to do between now and the next six months to keep my kidney healthy. I never had anyone in my family with kidney issue. But, I did have my stepdad pass away 3 years ago and he had severe kidney issues. So I think thats why I stress more because I think of him everyday. Thanks again and if you have any other tips I appreciate it. God Bless everyone in this community.

The Mediterranean diet is very good for people in early stages.

Thank you so much for the tip. Im trying to eat better. But, must admit I eat out still and sometimes get the craving for sweets. I will look into this info. you stated my primary mentioned it along time ago when I was trying to lose weight..So now I try to eat smaller amount of meet and less flour and rice most days. Any other tips are welcome. I feel so much better that you all understand my anxiety. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

So sorry you were left so anxious about your medical issues. Ì guess at the time you were hearing all this , you may have been too surprised to ask questions. Things like that happens. Any chance you get an appt sooner perhaps with your primary doctor just to ask to have all those issues explained? As others have already posted, there are some things you can do. Years ago, u had similar problems with my back. Over the years, many different orthopedic surgeons just said ,"oh, no. You're Nota surgery canidate without ever telling me why. One year, I finally scheduled an appt, brought my MRI results and ask the doctor to go over them and tell me exactly what's wrong with my back and what options do I have, if any. Phew, what a relief I had afterwards and wondered why I waited so long to ask. Good luck and keep us posted. There's a whole community out here that cares.

Thank you so much for your reply. I think I may actually do that I guess I was afraid if I should because I had already been told before even having this scan . That my LDL and A1C1 and cholesterol was kind of high. But, I think I may book an apt. with her or do you think maybe a nephrologist could guide me?? Im so glad you got the help you needed. I always believe we should try to be proactive in our care. I will keep you posted. What do you think about the nephrologist???

A lot depends on how willing you think they would be. Of course, a nephologist would be best but I've had some nephologists who were almost non-verbal and also one who was very helpful. Good luck.

Stay away from NSAIDs. Lower the amount of sodium that you consume each day. Include fresh, healthy food prepared at home. Don’t lower protein unless a physician tells you to do so. We generally have to eat to our labs, for example, I am not excreting protein in my urine, so I have not been told to reduce protein, but I have lowered my meat consumption anyway. Some people need to reduce potassium and phosphorus, but my numbers are ok and my eGFR has improved, so I don’t have a restriction, while the next person may have labs that show they need to lower consumption of something. Relax, your eGFR is not bad, so follow your physician’s guidance.

Thanks for replying. So after I reviewed my Labs well. It states my Creatnine Blood POC is .70 and my eGFR is >60.0. Then in the findings of the Renal with Lasix exam it stated that there was a slight delay of cortical activity within the right kidney with time to peak on the right at 4.39 minutes and time to peak on left 2.39 minutes. Then it stated : Transit and excretion are normal . In addition it stated right kidney received 39% of perfusion in the left 62%. Whatever that means . So I don't know if they are referring to the lasix etc. Also, based on my other numbers I know my A1C1 I must lower because it's at prediabetic level and my cholesterol and LDL. My LDL is 154 and it should be less than 128 and my Cholesterol is 219 and it should be less than 200 based on my annual exam before I found out about kidney. So I feel like it's a lot to deal with. I also called the kidney association for some tips and they said maybe when I do my next exam I can ask for urine test to find out if Im excreting protein etc. I wonder why they did not ask me to do this test also when I did the Renal with Lasix exam. I also heard to try and stay hydrated . But, honestly it's so hard to drink so much water. But Im working on it. Any tips I appreciate it.
