Well...!!

I am really shocked, but pleased to join you all. I have been admitted to hospital with acute kidney disease. I've been having problems for a few months, I'm T2 diabetic along with other probs, I've had numerous tests which were all negative, but I felt something was wrong. The hospital doctor has said it's too much medication in my body and my kidneys have gone on strike. So I'm hoping for some advice please, what I should and shouldn't do...what I can eat and can't....this is all sooo new to me and a bit daunting and I want to get it right!!! Thank you all...xx

Thank you. My potassium level was 6.6. Rose to 7 and has now lowered to 5.8. They've diagnosed Acute Hypokolemia and stopped all of my diabetes and BP meds. I do look forward to a 'new life' and my diet will change completely....but let's hope eh?

Yes medication can do that. When the medics have done what they are doing, I suggest you return on here with more details including blood test results such as eGFR. There's lots you can do without medication (generally more than with!).

Good evening Sue 32. You will get good advice here. But there is also a Facebook group. Chronic kidney disease uk. Which is very supportive and informative and they will point you to the section to find out more about what you should be eating. Take care and hope you feel better soon and get home for Christmas. welcome! I hope you recover your kidney function. Ask about a new class of drugs - SGLT2 inhibitors, they lower blood sugar and are renal protective.

hi Sue

I can relate to the shock of discoving one is in End Stage Renal Failure. I went in to hospital during covid after a fall. Found out i had 8.8 potassium and 5.5 HGB and16 GFR.

Had been struggling with a long lasting UTI, but finding out i was CKD axshocj.

Anyway, iwith help of very proactive renal dietician, stayed off dialysis for over a year. I have been addressing all my health concerns, and hopefully soon on transplant list.

I am constantly amazed how much following my renal diet helps--everything shows in my labs.

Find a proactive renal dietician ASAP

Andy

All becos of over prescription of drugs! Fromm 11 tabs daily I now take 5 and all diabetes meds have been stopped. I'm just realising how close I came, but change of everything when I get home!!!
