Hi everyone I have a Stage 4 CKD diagnosis. Specifically AA Amalydosis. I had no idea what I was dealing with until I ended up hospitalized last November. Since then I have been working with a primary doc, nephrologist and dietician. The goal is to help my kidneys and get my numbers looking better. Right now my only meds are 25 MG of losartan daily. My nephrologist has prescribed Farxiga. However before I begin I thought I'd gather some feedback from my fellows on here. How has your experience with Farxiga been? Have UTIs been an issue? Have your numbers improved? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Anyone being treated with Farxiga? Looking for feedback please!
My husband is on Farxiga. He was GFR of low 40s and went up to 59. He came up and down but has not been below 49 for 2 years. No protein in the urine. He is 73 and diabetic. Our neph says that she will only have to see him now twice a year. No side effects. And he is on the patient assistance program, so it does not cost us. People should aways check with high price prescriptions for patient assistance. You can have insurance and the income levels are pretty easy to meet to qualify.
Hello, i got prescribed with Farxiga since June because my stage 3b ckd seemed to be going downhill, numbers dropped to 34…i had to do another blood test a month after taking it and gfr was even lower (!) but nephro said that is normal and should stabilise after that. Next blood test in december. So far no UTI issues…🤞🤞🤞
Hi I’ve been taking Farxiga since Feb of this year to help with protein leakage. No side effects so far
Hi Tulum, have you seen improvements in eGFR and protein leakage?
is it working for you? What type of CKD do you have?
i have FSGS, not diabetic. I was stage 4 when I tried it. It helped my numbers, but I had extreme fatigue and had to stop.
I am +2 years post transplant (I am 68). I have just been prescribed Farxiga a month ago for Type 2 Diabetis . It was cleared by my nephrologist of 20 years. But even before I take a new meds, I do my own research I use BARD ( better than ChatGPT - or the old school of Googling). Here is an example of what will come out if I encode " What is Farxiga use for and is it safe for kidney patient?". Of course I take it all in, digest the information and collaborate with my medical team led by my nephrologist for the best option.
What is the use for Farxiga? Is it safe for kidney patient?
Farxiga (dapagliflozin) is a prescription medication used to treat type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease (CKD). It is a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor, which works by causing the kidneys to excrete excess glucose in the urine. Hope this helps.
Use for Farxiga
Type 2 diabetes: Farxiga can be used alone or with other diabetes medications to lower blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes.
Chronic kidney disease: Farxiga is approved to reduce the risk of kidney function decline, kidney failure, cardiovascular death, and hospitalization for heart failure in adults with CKD who are at risk of disease progression.
Safety for kidney patients
Farxiga is generally safe for kidney patients, but it is important to talk to your doctor about whether it is right for you. Farxiga can increase the risk of dehydration, especially in people who are taking other medications that can cause dehydration, such as diuretics. It is also important to note that Farxiga is not recommended for people with end-stage kidney disease or who require dialysis.
If you have CKD, your doctor will monitor your kidney function closely while you are taking Farxiga. You should also drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.
Here are some of the potential side effects of Farxiga to be aware of:
Dehydration
Urinary tract infections
Genital yeast infections
Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)
Hypotension (low blood pressure)
Dizziness
Headache
Nausea
Diarrhea
If you experience any of these side effects, talk to your doctor right away
I've been on Farxiga for a year with no side effects. Sugar does show up in urine as expected. Kidney.org has a podcast about SGLT2.
It is called, "Hot topics in kidney Health".
I have been on Farxiga for about a year and a half. No bad side effects, and kidney function is stable. I try to stay well-hydrated.
Best to you!
