Has anyone had Pyeloplasty surgery or Laparoscopic surgery? I was recently diagnosed with an obstruction. Is there a diet you follow to get rid of nausea and feeling like you're going to throw up?

I had a completely different surgery back in October on my bladder. I know what you are talking about, the nausea and vomiting are brutal.

My Urologist who performed the surgery prescribed very small script of Zofran to get me through nausea, otherwise, I couldn't eat a thing, which is not good because I am very thin to start with! Maybe, call your surgeon and see what they suggest.

All the best to you, and I hope you are on the mend and feeling better soon :-)

I have had a number of non-kidney laparoscopic surgeries, the last just 5 weeks ago. Are you having the nausea now? Or worried about it after surgery?

My last laparoscopic surgery was a gastric sleeve for weight loss. While I had to follow a strict diet for 10 days prior to surgery, that had more to do with the fact that the surgery was on my stomach than that it was laparoscopic. Compared to my previous laparoscopic surgeries (which were all more than 20 years ago), this time I had to do something called "carb loading" before surgery. This involved either a carb loading pre-surgical drink or drinking one of several listed fruit juices both the night before and the morning of surgery. He also prescribed a medication that was supposed to help prevent post-surgical nausea. Those two things made such a huge difference in the surgery recovery. I had no nausea and no trouble drinking water and broth immediately after surgery. I also had nausea pills for after surgery but I never needed to take one. It was also nice to be able to drink water up to 2 hours before my scheduled surgery time. This was the first surgery or procedure requiring an IV where it did not take multiple sticks and multiple nurses to get the IV started.

I would talk to the surgeon and find out what to expect and ask about the newer policy of being able to drink water the day of surgery. And ask about both pre- and post-surgery nausea meds, it was so helpful for me.
