Hi. I was taking lorazepan to help me quit smoking when i was at stage 4 ckd. Didnt seem to bother my kidneys, but i was taking a super low dose and not for very long. Was recently contemplating asking my dr if i could take a prescription for sleep at at stage 5 but havent got that far yet.

Make sure to speak with your doctor about weaning off gradually; it's not advisable to cold turkey benzos, it can cause seizures.

Bruisegirl,

Bear in mind, that every drug interacts differently in each patient's system, so it may or may not have an effect on your kidney function.

I agree with SANDRACEE about having a talk with your doctor about your GFR drop. This could be due to any number things; so it would set your mind at ease. I would also ask about this particular drug, why it was chosen for you and if there is an alternative that he/ she could after a year.

I agree about not coming off this medication without supervision, as does the pharmacy pamphlet. So time for a doctor chat.

It will all work out..

Let us know what the verdict is.

Bet🙂

As with some drugs, there is scientific evidence of kidney damage eg link below. Sadly it's too common for people to seek only drug solutions to issues that can be resolved via a natural approach involving nutrition and/or lifestyle eg sleep hygiene. I'd expect there to be plenty of qualified, accredited Nutritional Therapists in the US that include this in their specialism.

There are a few around but seem to be more focused on weight loss which I do not need. I take few meds and the ones I do are the lowest dose you can get. Living in a very rural area and in the middle of cow country there's not much on the healthy side of things. There's a lot of fried this and that.

Probably depends dosage amt snd how often you take it .

But you must also look at overall diet and lifestyle .

I got this from internet .

Furthermore, propylene glycol is contained in parenteral formulations of benzodiazepines (e.g., lorazepam, chlordiazepoxide, and diazepam), which may cause acute kidney injury, proximal tubule injury, hyperosmolarity, and sepsis-like syndrome (Cawley, 2001).Nov 16, 2020
