Fistula operation

I got my fistula fitted on Tuesday. It wasn't too bad. They did it under local anaesthetic , with some sedation. Extremely strange afterwards, trying to move your arm 😳😳. I did however gain feelings in my fingers really quickly. I was the fourth and last person to be operated on, yet the first to gain feeling back. It was actually lovely to meet other people, who were going through the same thing. Sometimes you do feel like the only person facing these issues. Unfortunately yesterday and today I feel as if, I have been hit by a truck!! I have a post op meeting today, to check the fistula. Just thought i would post to reassure anyone about to get their fistula fitted. Hope you all have a good day.

So very different from my US experience. I was under a general anesthetic when I got my upper arm fistula. While there were other people in my post surgical recovery room I didn't meet any of them. Once I started waking up they whisked me into a changing room and had my husband come help me put my clothes back on. I was still so groggy I couldn't figure out how to put my pants on! I was so worried to pick my leg up and put it in the pants leg. I've had my fistula since summer of 2020 and am grateful I haven't had to use it yet. My eGFR bounced up to 25. My CKD is from a rare cause, decades of dehydration from having a high output ileostomy. Most of what I drink never gets to my kidneys and flows into my ostomy bag. Dr.s have been really bad at guessing the path of my CKD. It was very fast declining at first, but now has slowed and even gotten a little better. I hope you heal well. It took me a week to feel better, but I think that was more from the general anesthetic. It takes awhile for that crap to leave your body!

Hi Barbara thanks for sharing your experience. It really made me chuckle 🤣🤣 regarding the pants scenario. We were in hysterics when one of the male patients was getting dressed by the nurse, in his cubicle. Thats amazing news about your GFR. I hope you continue to remain stable. Its amazing all the different things that can affect our kidneys. Wishing you all the best.
