I had bladder disease 20 years ago and only developed DKD after a seriously botched bilateral nephrostomy. Has anyone else had similar experience. It was truly traumatic.
Bilateral nephrostomy : I had bladder disease... - Kidney Disease
Bilateral nephrostomy
What happened 19Willow? I had kidney damage due to a kidney blockage but not related to an external procedure.
I had bladder disease, interstitial cystitis, but healthy kidneys when my urologist suggested a bilateral nephrostomy to give my pain a break. Healthy kidneys according to the doctor doing the procedure are very firm and difficult to penitriate were as diseased kidneys go soft and squishy therefore easier to penitriate. So he wasn't actually keen to proceed but was ordered by my consultant. The whole thing was done with only local anesthetic which only freezes the outside surface. As s as he reached the kidney its self I was in agony and remained so for the entire 45 minutes it t to do both kidneys. The procedure was supposed to be a day surgery with a little rest on a ward and then home. An hour after it was done I hemorrhage from both kidneys and lost 3 pints of blood which required 2 transfusions. My kidneys were very badly damaged and I spent 10 days in ho for a day procedure!!?? My GFR dropped almost immediately to 66 and has steadily decline ever sine and is now 14..I ultimately had to have my bladder removed and have had a Urostomy ever since which contributes to my declining CKD.
I’m so sorry to hear all that. It does sound like the worst of experiences! Sending hugs your way!!
