Looking for advice regarding home dialysis. I understand their is a at home requirements check list / instructional set up. We live on an island which makes a dialysis center 3-4 times a week impractical.
At home dialysis: Looking for advice... - Kidney Disease
At home dialysis
Are you considering peritoneal dialysis? My husband did this at home while sleeping and one tx at lunch time. It’s so much easier on the body & dietary restrictions are more lenient. It’s pretty easy.
Hi! There are two types of dialysis that can be done in your home - peritoneal dialysis (PD) which is done overnight via cycler or daytime by manual means, and home hemodialysis (HD) which is a machine approach. PD accesses your peritoneum to remove toxins whereas HD accesses your blood vessels to remove those toxins. A useful link to help you determine your choice is here: mydialysischoice.org/#ey Making a decision that fits your needs is always good! Oh! I forgot to add that all home versions requires supplies being brought to your home. Most all supplies are provided by the dialysis center you affiliate with. You will need space for them. And training and an in-home visit are also provided.
I know if you are doing peritoneal dialysis your nephrologist should send a nurse to do a home visitThey come look to make sure you have a place to do the dialysis and a place you have to set up fir supply. Because you will get about 30 boxes a week
So you need to check that you are able to get those supply deliver every week . I know my cousin did hemodialysis in an rv so she had her machine but I don’t know about the supply needed for that . Check with your nephrologist office ask them if you are able to at home and they can give you booklets and guide you what you need.
I know with pd you will have the dialysis bags , tape for your port alcohol wipes , mask if you use cycler a table for cycler machine the main thing is to keep everything clean , I just recall this from my mom doing I will be doing it soon.
It depends on your PD Prescription....I receive around 20 boxes a month..plus there are a couple of other supplies..
