Hello - I am still researching. I do suffer from constipation because of the medications I have to take and I heard that can cause complications in PD because the blockage can move the tubing. How much more good foods can you have on the PD instead of HD - also I heard that you can drink more fluid with PD. My husband is still not keen on the idea because he thinks it will keep me more housebound. I haven't gone out since my diagnosis 5 weeks ago - I think it is looking at all the normal knowing that it cannot be your life anymore. I would be grateful for any suggestions - thanks for reading.

Here is a website regarding constipation and ckd that was helpful to me.
I am stage 5 and since my Dr told me to avoid sodium, I now take a teaspoon of Flax oil to remedy constipation. It is effective and also kidney friendly.
Hi! My husband was on PD for a time. He had an allowance of 32 oz of fluids a day. To combat constipation, he was encouraged to take Miralax and/or Senokot which didn't figure into the fluid calculations. His diet was unrestricted, and included meat and seafood, but was told to keep his eye on phosphorus in everything. Of course, some foods are higher in that than others. It quickly became clear to us that almost everyone on PD will have excessive phosphorus levels (dialysis simply can't clear it) and will be prescribed a phosphorus binder to take with meals. On the other hand, those on HD will often have issues with potassium and binders are prescribed then too. Hope this helps.
