Initially, I know that the interpretation of a 24 Hour Catch it can be a bit more confusing to interpret that a simple one time dipstick analysis/ urine sample.
Nephrologists consider the 24 hour catch the Gold Star Marker in their field as it reflects an average of your urine over a 24 hour period as opposed to one sample at a given time which may have varying results.
This is similar to the A1C average of glucose over a 3 month period.
My nephrologist always has me do a 24 hour catch for him before each appointment for years as it gives him a broader picture.
Your nephrologist is the best person to explain your results and concerns to you in regard to your individual health.
If you are wondering/ concerned if your water consumption is too high and that your results are lower with a weaker stream; ask.
I would also print out your present labs and check any areas which may flag high/ low based on the given lab ranges and ask.
Next to your present results, list the results generated in your last test as it will show patterns.
List any questions either on your lab sheet, in a notebook and jot answers and discussion.
Be sure that your nephrologist explains your results and concerns to you in plain language so that you don't leave the office wondering.
Your notes are reflective and can serve as a base for your next appointment.
I am glad that you will be seeing your nephrologist on the 19th, which is a short wait as you will have exact answers and set up an action plan for the future.
The waiting is frustrating but the end product is the relief.
I hope that this has helped.
Please reach back to me and let me know the outcome of your appointment.
You need to wait to talk to your Dr it may not be what you think it may not be related to your kidneys too. also weak stream does not relate to low egfr but drinking too much does. You should ask your Dr how much to drink. Drinking too much usually leads to swelling and you will feel very weak dizziness headache brain fog slow or irregular heart beat etc because your sodium is depleted and if not replenished can lead to coma or death if you did not have symptoms you are fineFinally anxiety is the major cause for CKD do learn to relax and not worry about your kidney you cannot keep high egfr as you age even if you don't have CKD. However your heart is the prime focus in your health right now so do things to protect the heart and your kidney will benefit.
We encourage you to talk with your doctor about your specific test results. For general information about urinalysis, visit: kidney.org/atoz/content/wha...
When is your next Neph appt? Wait to review test results then, or call the office nurse. That way they have all of your previous results in front of them and your entire history and can give you the answers you need.
