I thought I'd post this in case I'm not the last person on planet Earth to find out

I had always thought that you had to had one of the $150 Kindle Readers to download free books from Amazon with a Prime membership.

I found out yesterday that I can do that with just my PC. Now I can get books and magazines for zero cost or very low cost. I have really been missing out. It's tough being a natural blonde. Some of the blonde jokes have merit LOL

Anyhow, there are a lot of Plant-Based Diet books, Kidney Diet books, and even free veggie magazines you can read at no cost. No buying books, or traipsing to the library.

I copied a few links to get you started in case you didn't discover them years ago (like me).

Plant-Based Diet for Beginners

amazon.com/Plant-Based-Diet...

Plant-Based Instant Pot Cookbook

amazon.com/Plant-Based-Inst...

Vegan Instant Pot Cookbook (you could always add some poultry or fish)

amazon.com/Vegan-Instant-Po...

If you put "Plant-Based Kindle Books" in the Amazon search you'll get pages and pages to select from.

I'm over the moon with my new discovery!!

Now, go ahead and tell me all about how you've been using Kindle for years and years for Plant-Based books and make me feel silly ROFL!!!! No one tells me anything!!!

That's great. It's a fantastic resource isn't it? I saw they have audio books as well but I already get those from my State Library for Blind and Handicapped. They gave me a special "book player" and I can either be sent disks or download onto my computer and put on my own stick to use in their machine. They have so many books but are about a year behind in recording them. I love listening to them in bed at night when I can't sleep, and Henry listens too, I swear he does!!! They have a lot of health related books and cook books.

That is great you have good facilities to use. Never dreamed would be something like Kindle. Have not tried audio books yet.

I discovered that last year when I purchased a book in a special format that my kindle couldn't process. I love my Kindle but being to open ebook for Ctrl+F search is absolutely great!

Whatever works is wonderful, right?

You can also BORROW books from the public library and get the latest additions sent to your cell phone or PC for audio listening. There are a few platforms or apps from which to do this. I am most familiar with OVER DRIVE. I usually download a book to listen to while walking. It often gets me out more so I get back to the book to find out what happened in the next chapter.

I don't have a SmartPhone I don't think my flip phone will do that.

What a shocker that I don't have a "Smart" phone right, I probably need one more than most. I am technically challenged to put it mildly.

I love the library. I thought I wanted to be a librarian as a kid since I loved reading so much. I did learn about their online downloading. I went in person to borrow some books on tape when the State Library closed and I didn't know how to download them. I learned a lot during the past 2 years LOL

It's great you are getting out walking and listening at the same time. I'd need to master walking and chewing gum before I did that. I think I'm safer lying in bed and listening to them at night when my aches and pains keep me awake most of the night.

Thanks! I will look for the APP.

Oops: my earlier text should read "editions" not "additions."

Best to call or contact your Public library. They are so helpful. You can put books on hold and renew ones youre reading . Great program.

Good luck.

I have used this feature as well on my Kindle and love it! You also can select the free to you button and watch some great movies as well.

Thanks for sharing the links for plant based books. Will pursue them!

I am AMAZed and what AMAZon does with Kindle. I have it on my phone and computer, but I am still learning about all the things it does too. I love Prime. One big cost but the convenience of free shipping and all the other benefits of free stuff and other discounts really makes it worth it. And one subscription is for both my husband and me. We also are Alexa fans and she runs the house. :)

I don't know your financial situation, but Amazon does give 1/2 price discounts for seniors, students, low income, etc.

I only pay $6.99 per month, not the $12.99. And it's great when shipping gifts you don't have to pay for reshipping, just pay $4.99 for a gift bag and it's delivered to any state for you, or skip the gift bag fee.

I don't know how I got along without it. I wish I still lived near a Whole Foods Market and I'd get groceries delivered free too. I wish they'd make that deal with Trader Joes.

Whoa... senior discount for Prime? I had no idea. How did you find out about that?

jodaer profile image
jodaer in reply toBassetmommer

I'd like to know that too. BTW.. WF doesn't deliver free to Prime members anymore. I think there's a 10$ charge.

Sophiebun11 profile image
Sophiebun11 in reply tojodaer

Thanks for the update, I won't feel bad about not getting free WF!!!

What is WF? We have Prime so I'll check out the senior discount on it.

WF is Whole Foods

If there's a discount to be found, I'll sniff it out!!!!

Have you been missing out on it?

Call Amazon Cust. Serv. I think I had to send a copy of DL for proof of dob.

If you're in the US you can get a discount on your electric and gas bill for certain disabilities, cut your bill 20%, my Dr. signed me up.

I also get free internet and $9.00 telephone.

I'm on SSDI since I was 34 y/o and there are plenty of perks for being lower income. I just run across them by accident usually, or in some newsletter.

Jump on the Prime discount, it's worth it to pay half.

jodaer in reply toSophiebun11

I'll definitely look into it. Thanks

You should create a blog with your gift to sniff out discounts. Thanks for the info,

I think I get them from others who do the sniffing them out. Other info just falls into my lap. I'll share here if I find any that will be helpful.

I have a Kindle but didn't know that. I only play games on it. I've tried reading on it but it's hard to hold besides I much prefer the book. The physicality of holding is as much of the process as reading the words. I love the library too... I get all my books there. I shop the catalog and request, they send me an email when I can go pick up. They started curbside pick up at the start of the pandemic and closed the doors. The doors are open now but they still have curbside.

Sophiebun11 profile image
Sophiebun11 in reply tojodaer

I like the curbside it's easier really. The Pandemic did change some things for the better like all the working at home people.

jodaer profile image
jodaer in reply toSophiebun11

The curbside is nice but I live alone and am sort of a hermit. I like to go in and see the people... that's my "social interaction" and it suits me. I'm at the library at least once a week, maybe more.

Sophiebun11 profile image
Sophiebun11 in reply tojodaer

I can understand that. I used to go weekly too until I started downloading talking books off the internet. Now I go monthly.

Thanks for posting that info. I can barely use my smart phone but we do have Amazon Prime so I'll give this a try.

Dear Sophie,

Thanks for the Information! I haven't ever, really looked into these, though I have made some 'Specific' Google Searches. For example a Chilli Con Carne or Curry Recipe.

I tend to 'Blunder About' with my Recipes/ Cooking.... often with Lovely 'Results' I might add! If you want my Recipe, for Chicken with Dark Treacle and Rosemary- which I developed to 'use up' some Dark Treacle I had in the cupboard- I can PM you.... or 'Post', n here, if needed just let me know.... Lastly

Happy New Year 2022
