You seem very concerned about this issue which means to me you have lost hair. So you need to talk with your doctor to see if they can find the cause. Each person is different. Some lose hair for many different reasons and some do not have an issue. For example, I have long hair, stage 4-5, plant based and have not lost hair at all. To answer your question is impossible because it all depends on the person. In general, I do not think hair loss is common because of just CKD, but more with medications and poor diet.

Not necessarily. I live in a latin american country and when I go to my nephrologo I can see the dialysis people coming and going and most of them have really great hair. Same for the non dialysis clients waiting in the hallway. I've had hair loss for most of my adult life, but these folks look like they are either genetically bald or have glorious heads of hair.

I do and not on dialysis yet it was most likely a thyroid or hormone issue some say biotin helps but not much for me. However if your kidney issues are thyroid related treating that can stop CKD progression.

Bassetmommer is so right! We are all different and react differently Your hair loss could be caused by something other than CKD. I was not aware that is a side effect. You need to talk with your doctor about this. Some simple lab tests could show him why this is happening. He can also recommend a hair product that is safe for you to use and is OK for your kidneys.I did not have hair loss during the time I had CKD. After my transplant I did lose hair for a short time, and then it came back in even thicker. I am now 22 years post transplant.

I would ask your PCP, maybe you should get a referral to a dermatologist or endocrinologist. I was losing hair before I ever had CKD. My issue was due to extremely low Vit. D levels, hypothyroid, hyperparathyroidism, and a couple medications I was on. I don't think CKD is a cause of hair loss unless you get depleted in nutrients. I had tons of hair coming out daily but never any one actual bald spot. Once I started taking Vit D when it was discovered on a blood test that I was low, and once I started better nutrition (I was vegan and switched to vegetarian) my hair stopped falling out. It's still thin, but that could be getting older. I used to have very thick hair. If you use harsh hair dye that can be a cause, but usually that causes dryness and breaking off, not falling out of hair. Good luck to you.
