You should always get a second and third and fourth test for GFR. If you see a decline from the first to the second, then 3 months later, do another test. If the decline continues, then you have something going on and should be tested every three months. GFR is a measurement oh the function of your kidneys at the time of the test. Being dehydrated can affect the results. Many things can actually effect the results so that is why the multiple tests. GFR can also go up and then go down. It is the history that dictates CKD.
Very well said with that last sentence as my Consultant whilst recently telling me that I had CKD, showed me the eGFR decline in the 15 years of blood test results I provided! The ironic thing is that in a few of those test results, some of the kidney related results were asterisked by the Lab and yet I don't recall any advice or suggestion of treatment being made.
I generally get a new GFR every 3-4 months. Basically every time I see my nephro. It goes up and down, between 50-60, once it went down to 47 but then back up.
