chest catheter and showering
Hi, first let me say that I'm currently not on dialysis, however when I was researching my options I found this site below that may be of help to you. Best of luck.
Hello, I had a chest catheter before transitioning to PD catheter. Unfortunately PD did not work for me, so I had to revert to hemodialysis through the chest catheter. My Drs advised not keeping it longer than 2-3 months due to possible infection. And they were very clear on not getting it wet. I never took a shower, only baths and body wipes. I went to a salon to have my hair shampooed. Few months after and I got my transplant. How long have you had the chest catheter?
Sucks but hope that helps. And hope you are well otherwise.
Have had it since Dec 14 of last year, i have been bathing till now, really miss my showers , but yeah was told only baths as well, have had few people testing and all failed, right now my niece is testing, pray this is the one, would be through paired exchange, I am 0 and shes B
I remember missing showers. My skin started flaking on upper body since I couldn’t shower and exfoliate properly. The dialysis nurse gave me a waterproof square packet designed to protect the chest catheter, but it still wasn’t a tight seal. So I bought a handheld shower head and sat on a stool in the tub and tried to work around the area carefully.
Good luck and I hope you find a match soon!
Hi! My husband also had a chest cath. When showering, he used a cath cover such as Aquaguard or Shower Shield to completely seal the site along all sides. Most run small so try to find the product that covers the greatest area. You can also get a showering cape but my hubby thought that would be like showering in a raincoat since he's pretty short. But hey, one could always take out the scissors and cut it back. LoL. I do know you can shower with a chest cath. Where there's a will, there's a way.
Thank you so much I saw those shower capes and was wondering about that, if nothing else at least run shower on back and keep it low as well, at least back part andlow part would feel cleaner lol, I am leaning towards that shower cape
Try these. I used 2 or 3 beginning towards at bottom.
