Hi, I guess I'm looking for some advice. Over the past couple of weeks, and out of the blue, my kidneys have taken a bit of a nose-dive.
Blood results 19/02/21 Today Range
Serum Sodium 136 136 133-146mmol/L
Serum Potassium 4.6 4.6 3.5-5.3mmol/L
Serum Urea 3.8 6.1 2.5-7.8mmol/L
Serum Creatinine 71 155 45-84umol/L
GFR 73 29 '>90
The lab sent "AKI Warning Stage 2" . GP has stopped blood pressure med losartan & replaced with amlodipine (which makes sense). Got to get bloods done again on Monday. Coeliac diagnosis end Nov - getting scoped next w/end. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Typically, Losartan is actually good for ckd prevention. Is there anything in your lifestyle that could be causing your labs? It could be that your dehydrated, take too much ibprofen/aleve/other nSAIDs? I'm not entirely sure what your labs read since you have so many numbers....although your creatine is elevated for sure. I would definitely see what your next round of labs are before making any changes to your lifestyle. Good luck.
Thankyou Ladybug. I've tried to space the labs out a bit more - they read across bloods taken 19/02/21 then yesterday then range. GP started me on Indapamide 1.5mg - I was only on them for 4 days. I don't take any painkillers - I don't drink alcohol - I drink very diluted squash.
Hi Nellie, my kidneys are holding. thank God, I just have to control my HBP and Diabetes. I thought your GFR was 73.. if it’s 23 then is not that good but remember when they do blood work it’s only a snapshot of that day.. lots of luck!!
I would definitely be concerned that your gfr dropped so suddenly! A gfr of 23 is stage 4 CKD. Have you had any urine tests to check for a urinary tract infection/kidney infection? I hope that you and your medical team is able to figure this out quickly.
GFR was 29 not 23. Total bolt out of the blue. No urine tests yet. GP rang Friday afternoon - too late in the day to do anything I suppose. Would I have been sent to hospital a few years ago - probably - not now though.
Hi Mellie237, I’m also on stage 2 very close to stage 3. HBP control is very important because out of control damages our kidneys. I have no mine more or less under control but still get some high readings here and there. I have used Losartan for a few years but is not enough to control it so my Dr added Amlodipine, so I take Losartan in the morning and Amlodipine at night.
It depends on how old you are but your GFR is not bad. good luck and stay safe!
Hi MGNKF, I'm sorry to hear that your kidneys are so poorly. I'm 61. Really, GFR of 29 isn't bad? Up until this week mine has been consistently over 70 in Nov it was 82.
