Has anyone ever used Nutritional Yeast for flavoring. It is supposed to be cheese flavored. I know it is very high in Potassium, which is why I have not used it. I bought a jar but because like an idiot, I did not check it out thoroughly until I brought it home. But I was wondering if anyone knew of brand that was not as high. I have seen them range from 340to 483 mg for 2 tablespoons. The jar I have was from Red Star. I had it in my cupboard for some time. I went to look at it today, and it was filed with little brown bugs. UGG. Not using that brand.

Hi Bassetmommer....I also bought Nutritional Yeast, not for cheese flavor, but for B12, since cutting down on protein, it contains a lot. I got Bob's Red Mill Large Flake, less potassium than the brand you bought. Serving size is 1/4 Cup at 264mg Potassium. 1/4 Cup is 4 Tablespoons making it 66 mg per Tablespoon. I only sprinkle it here & there on soups & veggies, I haven't really used it in a full recipe yet. It tastes rather odd to me actually, very odd, not cheesy, but it could be just me! I was going to try a different brand to see if the flavor was better, but definitely wanted the B12. I'm going to investigate further!
