Why does the doctor check for parathyroid hormone when he does all my husbands lab work? What will the parathyroid show them it says it low and his calcium level is high what does all this mean?

PTH hormone regulates calcium and most of calcium is stored in bones and teeth.Since PTH hormone is not functioning properly , hence calcium is more which can cause brittle bones etc.Doctor will prescribe medicine for PTH hormone . May be you can check phosphorous also in blood because normally phosphorous and calcium balance each other. So may be his phosphorous levels might have gone down
My raised PTH reflected my low Vitamin D which our kidneys have trouble processing when compromised. Since taking Vitamin D, I feel much better.
