DadviceTV?

I've watched several of DadviceTV videos. He seems to provide sound advice in his YouTube videos. His central claim is that he has gone from CKD5 to CKD3. That's quite a feat!! Does this claim ring true?

If you like some of what he says, ask your nephrologist and other pertinent members of your Care Team, and see how you do. Since each of us is different and you can't expect to get the same results. I've moved from a low of 32 (at diagnosis) to a high of 65, Stage 2. That only lasted one draw, before and since that I've moved around in Stage 3. Some of one's ability to move around so widely may have something to do with the initial causes of our CKD.

Many thanks for your response BigBilly. I’ve seen some of his videos before but will have another look. Stay safe.

Every single person with ckd is going to have different reasons and responses to the disease. The kidneys are a very complicated organ and depending on what other diseases one has will be a big reason for kidney responses. If you find of his info healthy then that is great. Just be sure to always consult with your doctor before you change things that the doctor may have told you to do.

I love dadvice video's. I watched several of them over and over, when I was first diagnosed 7 months ago. He states in every video that he is not a doctor, and all of these suggestions should be approved by your nephrologist or physician.

I was able to raise my levels a lot, by using many of his suggestions, and a few others that are around.

EVERYTHING I did was OKAY with my physician, EVERYTHING.

I went from stage 3A to 1/last GFR 90, I have not had it checked in 2 months, everyone on here is dealing with different issues.

EVERYTHING HAS TO BE APPROVED by the PHYSICIAN treating you.

I have lost 10 pounds, I am eating a healthy plant based diet, intermittent fasting, I am doing it all.

Good luck

I don't understand what you're saying about your GFR numbers. Was your GFR in September 58 and it has stayed there up until 2 months ago?

My GFR was in the 90s most of my life, I never paid much attention to those numbers. I went 2 years without a PCP and did not have them checked. I had H1N1 3 years ago, and I think that was a huge factor.

I had a physical last June and my GFR was around 59, then I had them checked again in September and they were 58.

I went into shock, and read and read and watched videos on raising my GFR.

My PCP and I felt that I would implement some changes, and have my levels checked about every 2 months. I had my levels checked in October 2019, December 2019 and February 2020.

The last time they were checked was the first week of February.

Each time I had my levels checked, my GFR went up.

We all know that GFR is based on several numbers, what really helped me raise my GFR, was that I was able to lower my creatine levels.

I have no idea what the levels are now, but I am maintaining the same protocols basically for life, and will have them checked in June.

**Waiting because of the virus.***

Everyone's situation is different, but I believe my levels dropped due to dehydration, a higher then recommended dose of vitamins I did not need to be taking, and a new medication I was taking that I quickly changed. I am also started eating a bit "cleaner", I am hooked on carrots and cauliflower now. I love doing intermittent fasting.

I also lost 10 pounds, and I am losing about 5-10 more pounds.

My blood pressure has also gone down, which is another factor.

I threw everything at this including the kitchen sink.

One thing I have learned from talking to a Urologist is this: GFR can change quickly. She told me she has had patients whose GFR dropped 30 or more points due to illness.

This is something most of us will have to watch the rest of our lives.

Good luck!

Something you might want to consider doing next time you do your labs is to tell your doctor you want your cystatin-c tested. I've written several long rants about it if you look up my comments. It's really good for determining your prognosis, and when combined with your creatinine numbers in the combo formula, may even show better GFR levels. Read up and you'll see. Best of luck to you, and stay well and safe.
