Just a bit scared. (I didnt think I had kidney disease) , but yesterday I went to the ER for several near syncopal episodes. My bun was 26, creat was 1.75, and my GFR was 30. The last physical I had was in March, and my creat was 1.1 at that time. My GFR has always been >=60. I do have hypertension, and my mother had ESRD and coded and died while at a dialysis center. So Ive got some risk factors.
The ER doc said that i was clearly dehydrated, but he didnt feel like it was enough to drive my GFR down that low. I got a couple liters of IV fluid and was sent home. Obviously i am going to follow up about it, but I’m scared. He wrote acute renal failure on my discharge paperwork, which scared me more (but now I have read more about it and calmed down some lol)
Could dehydration really take your GFR down that low?

As you know, GFR can fluctuate and is a snap shot of the time the lab was done. The fact that you needed IV fluids suggests that you must have been severely dehydrated. I would go back and have another draw pretty soon to see if that was the cause. The kidneys can bounce back. I would suggest you get into the habit of drinking more water, especially with a family history of CKD. Sorry for the loss of you mother.
I understand your anxiety, but that is also not good coz it might raise your BP thus affecting your kidneys again.
Best thing is to relax and follow doctors orders. Do another round of tests after monitoring the effectiveness of re-hydration. GFR has a tendency of fluctuating coz after all its a test done ata given moment in time
