Kidney Failure?: I just had my labwork done... - Kidney Disease
Kidney Failure?
Hi and welcome to the community. If your doctor didn't inform you find a different one immediately. You are in Stage 4 of CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease).
My suggestion is to ask to have the test redone. Make sure that for the 48-72 hours before the labs ard done again avoid doing anything too strenuous and drink lots of water. Do not take anything like aspirin, Advil or Ibuprofen. If you must take something, take Tylenol. Use the davita.com website to find a free 90-minute Kidney Smart class in your area. The class will get you on the road to being kidney aware and learn all you can. Ask questions. Best of luck.
Thank you. Yes i just have the results the other day and i see my doctor in 2 days
Thank you again. Do you know how long stage 4 will last?
The Stages of CKD have no time of duration. There is much you can do to slow the progression of CKD. If you smoke, you'll need to stop. If you consume alcohol, stop or at least cut way back. Get yourself a solid exercise regimen and stay hydrated. You didn't mention any other health issues. Hypertension and Diabetes are the two biggest factors in CKD. You should also ask your physician for two referrals. One is to see a nephrologist and the other is to see a Renal Dietitian. The nephrologist will be able to answer more complex questions you have on the various stages of CKD. You should bring a copy of all your medications, including over the counter ones and any supplements you take. The DaVita website I mentioned will provide you with a lot of kidney-friendly recipes. Once you meet with an RD they can help you develop a kidney-friendly meal plan based on your blood and urine labs.
Become proactive and be your own advocate for your health issues.

Once you speak with your physician, many of your questions will hopefully be answered. Don’t be afraid to ask questions such as what to expect within the next year, three years, etc. Also, it’s early, but ask about transplants and when you are eligible to be referred to a transplant center. The more you know, the more you can be proactive and informed. Many of us have traveled this road and our health is manageable and we have wonderful lives. Best wishes!
