Trouble standing

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone out there had trouble standing for any lenght of time.

Like queues at airports and supermarket checkouts. I find I have to squat down to relieve discomfort in my lower back.

My egfr is 22, no protein in urine.

All replies will be very much appreciated,

Thanks,

andy

HI Andy,

There can be a lot of reasons why you are having difficulty standing. First of all, how old are you? Age can make a big difference in our strength. The kidneys are higher up in the back. I think it is pretty common for people to be uncomfortable standing still on hard concrete for a long period of time. The discomfort you are feeling however MAY be caused from something else like being dehydrated or even anemic. Please mention it to your doctor to see what might be going on. I personally cannot stand for any length of time but it is all about being old and out of shape. :) I also have psoriatic arthritis which affects many of my joints.

This obviously doesn’t apply to you but I had this problem for at least a couple of years before I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Probably worth mentioning this to a specialist.

I get very tired standing in a check out line. My back just feels tired so I can relate. Just figured it’s part of the deal. If I lay down and rest it goes away.

Me too but if I squat down it goes away.

CKD is a disability because your body is functioning or trying to function with an impaired kidney. So yes you will have less and less energy as kidney function lessens. Not only standing but walking for more than 30 minutes, lifting heavy weights and other physical activity which requires your muscles to produce lactic acid will give you fatigue, as lactic acid produced in the muscles are broken down by your liver & then the kidneys.

How is your protein level? If it's low your muscles could be in bad shape.
