So i got results about 3 weeks ago eGFR 55 and i was really scared being that my dr didnt explain anything to me all he said was he was worried and referring me to a kidney specialist so imagine my panic... Well i started a kidney cleanse the next day so its been about 3 weeks now n i got labs done last thursday n got my new results eGFR 83 i cant say for sure its the cleanse that im doing being that alot of people seem to be against it but just want to see what everyone's thoughts are... I'll be finished with the cleanse in a week and then i will get new blood work for the kidney specialist so we'll see how that goes

Edom, good for you. I am so very wary of things like cleanses and fasting for long periods of time. I ran it past both my nephrologist and renal dietician and both said for late stage CKD, it was not a good idea. Too much stress on the body. But for you it may have worked. You know, things like cutting down on protein and added more water to your daily intake can make a great improvement for some. Personally, I am in it for the long haul, so a drastic change in my diet, even short term, is not good. There can be a rebound.

You do not say what you did within this cleanse. Please tell.

My uncle swears by cleanses however im new to them... But i thought i would give it a shot... It is an herb and vitamin supplement... 2 pills a day and added a lil extra water to my diet that's all. My uncle told me Dr's usually disagree with cleanses but i figured i would try it... My boyfriend told my kidney dr n he suggested i stop taking them but i thought i would wait til i got a new blood test n if the results didnt improve or got worse i would stop but seeing that they got better im choosing to finish them... Not trying to be careless i made the choice being that they are natural herbs and vitamins.

oh and there lies the fallacy of the impact of herbs and supplements. Since they are not FDA regulated, there can be a lot of fall out from taking non-prescribed herbs and supplements, especially for kidney patients. Something as simple as camomile tea can be very dangerous but many posts claim how good it can be for you. ( It thins the blood and can cause internal bleeding.) Also, you do not know the impact of flushing out toxins on the kidneys. I am not lecturing you, but write for those who read this post, and may be stage 3 or 4 CKD.

Well thanks for the advise n ur right they r not FDA approved but for me not for everyone i went along the lines that even FDA approved medications are not always safe n being that they are vitamin n herbs i figured i couldnt go wrong n with that said im new to kidney health but thankfully i seen some results not saying Its for everyone. Thanks for ur feedback much appreciated

Thanks for the links about tea. Very helpful. I did not know about chamomile and affect on Kidney. Guess every once in a while would not hurt.
