In answer to your question, for some people, YES. Have you asked your nephrologist if your hypertension is the cause of your CKD? What have you been doing to slow the progression? How long have you been on your current medications? Have you checked all of your medications for a negative impact on your CKD?

Your BP is probably making you feel that way. Why hasn't your Dr gotten that under control, that's dangerously high and hard on your kidneys. Hooe you get the help you need. Go to another Dr you've got to get that BP down.

astonvantage, you aren’t by any chance taking Ramipril for the high BP are you? I ask as I felt very nauseous on Ramipril so it had to be stopped. I am also in the CKD 3b range but don’t experience nausea. However, we are all different and therefore can present differently to health conditions and to medication. I do hope your high BP is being addressed. Mine is very much higher and now showing resistance to treatment - the consultant’s nightmare! Good luck!

Sorry to hear that you are feeling sick. Everyone is different in what point they feel unwell with kidney problems. I started feeling sick especially in the morning around 16% eGFR but my phosphate and potassium was always good until I reached stage 5. Like Celtic, I was given Ramipril and it made me feel sick so I stopped taking them after talking to the doctor as my blood pressure was only slightly elevated.

I am guessing the BP readings you posted is before your treatment? If your BP is not at 130 / 80 (or lower) chances are you could have kidney or heart failure if not treated. Also are you up-to-date on all your immunization? For kidney patients its very important to have immunization - as weakened kidneys also weakens the immune system. Then there is this possibility of your medication 'side effects' that can make you feel really sick all the time too. It has happened to me before.

Aston, I say no. I am stage 3b (gfr 38) but I'd never know it because I am 57 and still quite healthy and active. It must be your blood pressure because mine is normal.

Stage 3 CKD should not be making you sick, but HIGH BP certainly can! YOU NEED TO GET YOUR BP UNDER CONTROL ASAP!!! Not only is it building up pressure in your kidneys, making their function worse, it is also very hard on your heart. High BP could cause a stroke or a heart attack!!!

I am 19 years post transplant and have recently found out that my heart is very scarred up due to high BP I had pre-transplant.

Others have asked the question - WHY is your doctor allowing your BP to go uncontrolled. Please call your doctor today and see about another medication to control it. This is vital for your health now and in the future.

You should make an appointment to see your doctor as soon as possible as your blood pressure is not well controlled. High BP at those levels can cause further kidney damage and will hasten the progression of the disease. If you have a blood pressure monitor at home,, you should take your BP twice a day to get an idea what your BP tends to run. Perhaps 170/120 was just a spike as BP can definitely go up and down during the day. My BP tends to be the lowest in the morning after I take my meds. Also, smoking and drinking will raise your blood pressure, as will eating a lot of salty/processed food.
