1st weigh in!

Good morning everyone - I'm doing my first weigh-in. Unfortunately 11st 11lbs

Hope to be a bit less next Saturday! Being only 5'2" according to the BMI I'm obese, that shocked me ,so I'm going to try really hard this week! Do lots of walking already, I eat fairly healthily, so couldn't understand why I couldn't lose weight, but on reading all the information within this site I now realise my problem - too much food on my plate _ I don't like to finish until I'm well full! Ha ha, so will use a smaller plate as suggested and see what happens.

You need to add this to the Saturday Superstars weigh in. You won't be creating a new post, with a header and form to complete, you'll be replying to the host, nteapea. This will help you find it healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... and it explains what the weigh ins are about.

As well as portion size, you may like to work on what you eat, as well as how much. For me, understanding that it was carbohydrates that cause the problem, not dietary fat, was the turning point.

Thanks for that - I don't understand about any of this yet - I always thought eat less lose weight - but as I've got older that doesn't seem to work. So as you say carbs may be the key - I'll go investigate - thanks so much.

I think that's so for most of us. We've been 'fed' the low fat message for so long, while we've all piled on the pounds, and it can be hard to overturn those habits.

This is interesting healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Hi BridgeGirl

Well! - I was shocked to find out more about carbs! We thought we grow a healthy lifestyle in our garden - eat as much veg as you want and lose weight! HUH how untrue! - My favourite for this time of year is home grown swede with carrots - fill your plate do you good - plain boiled beetroots - good for you - eat them hot on a fork, can't wait for them to boil! - So - apparently these are the worst veg I could eat!! No wonder I'm 11st 11lb. I love my veg, better than any meat, not that I'm a veggie but - oh I don't know any more, you should see my little glum fairy face! Ha ha! I'll get over it and eat more boring lettuce and tomatoes, but they're nearly finished in the greenhouse now booo! Good job they haven't stopped me with my onions and cabbages - I'll go and make some coleslaw, and I'm going to get some full fat mayo! yum. Thanks for the advice - Fairyface.

What about spinach and cabbage and broccoli and cauliflower and leeks and kale? Do you like any of them? And your other veg are good, it's just a question of not overdoing the root veg. It's great that you grow your own :)

I have discovered that making your own may is really easy (I always thought it was something terribly complicated!) Here's how healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Thanks for the mayo recipe - looks good and easy I will try this on Thursday. Next year will grow different things so will go easy on what we have for now!

Good to meet you fairyface . Take comfort in knowing that all of us here were once newcomers to healthy eating and portion control. This site offers lots of advice and support to help us change our habits, and there is no reason you can't crack those couple of spare stone ( I started out at 11st 13 so I know it can be done). 😊

Hi fairyface

Another height mate who started out last week.

Taking that first step is key and you are on the right track. One day at a time and we'll all get to our goals :)
