Hi I'm new on here, I stopped talking medication nearly 12 months ago for depression and anxiety, one of the side effects of the meds was weight gain (I wasn't told this at the time) my doctor told me that once I stopped the meds the weight would start coming off - it hasn't, I've tried every diet going, I eat healthy most of the time and always cook from fresh and also go to the gym 4 times a week but i'm still 1.5 stone heavier than I have ever been, has anyone else experienced this problem with meds or has anyone got any advice for me? I really don't know what else to do. Thanks

Hi and welcome, AB47 :)

Maybe you should return to your GP and tell them that the weight has not started to come off and see what they suggest?

You don't want to diet, you want a sustainable lifestyle and I suggest you look at this, to see whether your healthy eating compares phcuk.org/wp-content/upload...

Hi AB47 and welcome. I agree with Moreless that going back to your doctor would be a great first step. If you´re afraid he might not listen to you or not take you seriously it can be helpful to write down every mouthful you eat and drink for at least a week and record your exact weight before and after so you can show precisely what you´ve been doing. The NHS BMI calculator can be helpful to determine your optimal daily calorie interval: nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-we...

Best of luck!

Hi and thank's for your advice, I have been back in November and he sent me for blood tests to check everything was ok with hormone levels, thyroid etc which my results came back saying everything was fine, he told me to keep doing what I was doing but i'm getting really down and disheartened now, I think I need to book back in again.

Hello and welcome AB47

That’s good news that your GP has told you everything is fine. Please read all the information Moreless has given you above and just ask if you have any questions 😊

Great to hear your blood work is looking good! Do you have a clear idea how many calories you are eating and how many you ought to be having? There´s research showing that even dietitians underestimate their calories by up to 20% if they estimate instead of counting.

That's a good point, I'll do some research regarding calories over the next couple of days.

Hello and welcome

My husband was on anti depressants for a while and he gained weight ( around 3 stone) He came off of them in stages, supervised by his doctor and he is in good health now. The weight took a longer time to shift than it did to put on, but it did shift eventually so please don’t despair. Your mental health is so important and as you are doing all the right thing your weight will stabilise I am sure. There are loads of lovely people on this site who have experience and wisdom to share, so stick with it and keep visiting the forum. Best of luck and good wishes xx
