hi all...what type of bread is best to eat if trying to be good? i can't seem to leave it out of my diet

Hello Pixiepiper and welcome to the forum.

Myself and probably a fair few people here look at weight loss, more as a change in lifestyle as opposed to 'a diet'. Implementing ways of living that help us lose weight now but are also sensibly sustainable once we have reached our weight goal.

I have been following the NHS 12 week plan which has allowed me to eat and drink anything I want but within moderation. I had to limit the amount of bread I ate so that I could eat healthier things and still lose weight. If I do have some bread, it's nearly always wholemeal seeded but then one slice is 127 calories which is quite a bit of my daily allowance.

There are others here that can explain to you a lot more about nutrition and how bread best fits into the scheme of things but if you can moderate your intake then maybe just have a bit of what you like.

Hi Pixiepiper and welcome - I agree with Tiggerr it's a life style change not a diet :)

I have changed the bread I used to eat for sandwiches in lunch boxes etc for weight watchers Danish - which is 102 cal for 2 slices, compared to Kingsmill 50 / 50 where 1 slice is 93 cals

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you 😊

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news 😊

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker nhs.uk/tools/pages/healthyw... to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for 😊

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate 😊

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page 😊 We also have a daily diary section which is great to get ideas of what other people are eating and I have to confess to nicking some of their menu's :)

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too 😊

I use weight watchers bread 50 cals a slice :)

Lettuce or invisible. Failing that, Danish/ weight watchers.

Bread is full of calories so is not a good food to fill you up.

I agree with Tiggerr and Cracker, losing weight is about calorie balance and eminent change, and I love bread and can not in all honesty say I would not eat it. I've found a granary in the local bakers that they slice and it comes in about 90 calories a slice and I have one loaf a week on average. 😊

You are very sensible to plan you favourite foods into your eating plan Pixiepiper 😊

Hi, I find warbutons wholemeal 400g sliced loaves quite good, there's a bit more substance to it than the danish and slimmers breads, so at 55 calories a slice makes a dcent sandwich or toastie. Having said that, there are times when only a slice of freshly baked granary bread will do - so long as I count the calories lol!

I love crusty white bread but as a diabetic I watch my carbs so only have it once a week. Also, I've been following a no added sugar free, no processed foods plan for the last few weeks and sourdough or soda bread rarely has sugar in it (always check the ingredients because some do have honey or similar in). I make my own soda bread too which means I control what's in it. Doesn't mean to say I can eat loads of it, I can't because it still has carbs.

There's no way I would eat any "diet" bread because they are thin and not filling. I would rather have 1 slice of Warburtons 50/50 than 2 slices of WW or Danish any day.

I tend to go for wholemeal, can be higher in calories but I find it more filling therefore eat less. Or go for wholemeal thins and bulk it with salad etc

I use Irish soda bread as a little goes a long way, and I don't feel hungry quickly after it.

I use whole grain from aldi it's 35 cal a slice it's fresher because they sell a lot of it. I had that problem at times I have used large mushrooms or romaine leaf. But at times I will take red yeast tablet than it goes away of wanting to eat a lot of bread. Just some ideas. I try cooking thing that you don't need bread like bean soup, turkey chili ,
