North Pole Expedition to see Santa πŸŽ…πŸ»πŸŽ…πŸ»πŸŽ…πŸ»πŸŽ…πŸ»how many kms did you walk, run, dance, swim last week? (7 December)

β€’117 Replies

Hello everyone. Last week we managed approx 700 kms. And we have about 900kms to go to reach Santa. Easy peasey!!

Last week I walked 31.05 kms, which I am pleased about. Feel in a much better place, had a productive week and my mojo is raring to go this week. Actually I am working at home today and my mojo wants to get in a 40 mins walk before I get out my laptop. Alright then πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ

How did everyone else do in the quest to see Santa?

Good morning Lizzy

Sounds like you are back in Goddess mode to me! Well done, I'm pleased your week turned out well.

Paces this week: 36705.

Back on target this week which is good – if unusual for me!

Have a good week everyone.

Fantastic!! :)

in reply to LessToLose

Congratulations LotToLose - a great total considering you've been unwell :-)

in reply to LessToLose

Wow LTL - great result :)

Morning everyone - well done Lizzy on getting your mojo back and getting those km kicked :-)

Well I managed to get my dog walking mojo back as well (occasionally !) so managed a total of 37.5 km (13.2k walking and 24.3k running) :-)

Santa here we come !!

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply to

I bet the dog's glad you've got your walking mojo back. It must be flippin' difficult having to cross your legs for a week, even if you have got four! :)

37.5Km's is a great number and didn't even need my paltry figure to make it look good :)

in reply to

Great result Lucca - I bet your dog was pleased! ;) :)

OMG, I've been dreading this confession all week! I'm gonna spill the beans and run and come back later, when my face isn't as red to congratulate everyone for their hard work.

I'm so sorry everyone, but I lost my mojo and only managed a paltry 10K's! If it makes you feel any better, I'm wearing a hair shirt and beating myself with birch twigs! :(

in reply to moreless

Morning moreless :-) I'm glad you got the negatives out the way, because I'm now I'm going to list a few positives...

1. You did 100k last week - that's 100K !! After that, you are allowed a quiet week :-)

2. I bet 10k is still more than you would have done a few months ago - and even if not, the fact you are thinking that's not enough is a good sign that you are thinking about your new healthy lifestyle :-)

3. You probably take a smaller size hair shirt than this time last month :-)

4. Despite 'only' doing 10k, you still had a good weight loss. I personally think this is really important - there will be times when we can't exercise as much, maybe injury, too busy, laziness etc. Therefore we shouldn't come to rely on the exercise as being the only method of losing weight - we have to keep up with the good diet as well, and you clearly did :-)

5. You didn't let the lack of exercise get you so down so much that you also scuppered your new healthy eating habits :-)

6. Psst - Santa isn't real so it doesn't matter if we don't actually get there. Or rather, as my 8 year old takes great delight in telling me, Santa is real, but is currently sitting typing away at a keyboard in Devon - and that's a lot closer than the North Pole - even from Scotland :-)

7. And finally, the most important positive of all....(wait for it) - your 10k made my 37.5km look a lot better ;-) :-D

So, three cheers for moreless...hip hip....

in reply to

HOORAY :-) :-)

What do you mean Santa isn't real?! πŸ˜±πŸ˜°πŸŽ…πŸ»πŸŽ…πŸ»πŸŽ…πŸ»πŸŽ…πŸ»πŸŽ…πŸ»πŸŽ…πŸ»

There's a price to be paid for being so magnanimous :(

in reply to moreless

Ditto what Lucca said. So over a fortnight , you've done 110k or 55k a week. That is flippin fantastic and we will get to see Santa. :) :)

in reply to moreless

Some more positives to add to Lucca's list:

In the spirit of Lizzy's group format - you have continued to add to the total kms.

Also the great results you see others getting may be due to inspiration from your mega amounts in previous weeks.

Lastly a break is good to reboost metabolism etc so no harm done re weight loss either, as long as it's definitely a break rather than a stop :)

Good morning Lizzy and all the kickers,

hope you all find the energy for this week's challenge to see Santa, a quieter week always gets some enegy back and might be the body's way to "demand" a rest.

am just on my way out to start week 4 of the couch to 5km, but I got a feeling that it's going to kill me ;-) so I might go back to week 3, we will see,....

Anyway, my total for last week was 67.7 km thanks to the couch to 5km which is still amazing me as I have never before attempted to run, yikes!!!

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply to Elissy

Wow!! Great number and a fantastic achievement with the couch to 5K :)

in reply to Elissy

Keep at it Elissy - you'll be amazed looking back once you are out running 5ks :-)

Elissy profile image
Elissy3kg in reply to

Not sure if I get to the 5k yet, found 5 minutes without stopping long 😁

Am amazed my shin is still holding though.

Santa in Devon? Yikes that's not far to run!!!

Hoping to do some running on the moors next year -watch me chase ponies and sheep 😎 . While the o.h. Plays cricket, I'll be out running πŸ˜‰

in reply to Elissy

Aaaah lovely - the moors are great for running. I used to go hashing up there - but should try getting up there for a more 'normal' run. It's the cows that make me run quicker !!

Elissy profile image
Elissy3kg in reply to

Haha, I can just imagine πŸ˜‰

Luckily I can walk 20 minutes and I'm there, but by the time I finish work it's almost dark. Roll on spring 🚢

in reply to Elissy

Woohoo Elissy - great result x

Thank you :-) I normally manage around 100000 steps each week, mostly through walking at lunchtime and doing gym classes & sessions during the week and a longer walk or cycle at weekends (although I find cycling/spinning doesn't always register properly on FitBit so I have to add manually.)

I hope Santa has a big lap :) Hopefully next year my bum will be a bit more boney (I say more lol!).

I beat my target of 45k again but still mostly cycling. Managed one mid week run but no weekend run - been working hard and v little spare time at the moment. But so pleased I've got my cycling habit back as that's been my absolute saving grace and fits around my work as it gets me there and back. Cycled to work 3 days out of 5 in fact :) So, my totals:

Cycling: 64.97k

Running: 4.31k

Total 69.28k :)

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply to

Wowee Ruth, that's great! What a bonus cycling to work is! :)

Even 1 run a week keeps your hand in, as it were, and I'm sure when things calm down and the weather improves, you'll be back out there with the best of them :)

in reply to

Brilliant Ruth - the cycling is definitely back in the groove again ! How you cycle round London I don't know !! :-O

in reply to

How you manage to run on those muddy hilly moors I don't know either! You're running's looking pretty great by the way :)

in reply to

Finally Ruth - found a post by you, where've you been this week ! :-)

2 things I keep meaning to ask - how's the new job going, have you ironed out your bullying problems ? :-(

Secondly, could you re-post your recipe for the granola bar thingy that you made. I've just made some from veggie magazine and they are delicious, but with a can of condensed milk in them, they aren't going to be eaten much by me ! I need the healthier option !!

Thank you :-) :-)

Is this what you're after Lucca?

healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

in reply to moreless

Thanks moreless, but I think there was a different one at some point. Something that you could cut into bars - I'm sure it had (grated ?) apple in it ? :-) They were definitely more low calorie than the ones I've just made - they are lovely, but just too many calories ! (and I've eaten too many already !!)

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply to

That's why I can't allow myself to have one of anything sweet, because I don't have a stop button! :)

in reply to moreless

mine feels a bit faulty at the moment as well ;-)

in reply to

Hi Lucca, I've been abducted by aliens (aka full-time working with additional work piled on top!)

I posted 2 recipes that might be what you're looking for - 1 for the granola, that Moreless has kindly shared - and 1 for apple flapjack which is in here healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh.... - the grated apple works as the 'glue'. I freeze them in a higgledy piggledy fashion so I can just pick one out every now and then as and when I want it, and not be tempted by a whole load in the cupboard ready to eat anytime.

in reply to

Thanks Ruth :-) That apple flapjack is the one I was looking for !! Glad to hear they freeze well also - otherwise they might disappear too quick !!

Sounds like you are a bit hectic at the moment - hope all is going well :-)

in reply to

It was just a very very busy week - I had things on every evening and a big family event yesterday too. Things are feeling better at work - I've put everything into making the job work. The woman who was bullying me is still a pain but my complaint has definitely resulted in her changing her behaviour. Also we've moved office and she's been moved into a different room to me. I'm confident that will make a difference too :)

By the way I recently adapted the flapjack recipe to make them a little more 'fun' - I pressed the mixture as flat as I could get it in the baking tray. Then when it was baked I drizzled about 50g of melted cooking chocolate across the top in a criss-cross style and stuck dried cranberries here and there to the setting chocolate squiggles. Then when it was cut up each flapjack had a bit of chocolate and sweet cranberry to go with it, making it a bit florentine-y. Maybe a few flaked almonds would work too, there's room to experiment...

in reply to

There's no way I'm drizzling chocolate on them, at least until I'm at the 'maintaining' stage !! :-)

I'm so glad your work is getting better - nothing worse than working for someone unpleasant :-(

in reply to

Woohoo Ruth - fantastic result :) :)

Can i please join too with my swimming? I really want to be on that sleigh ! The only problem is I don`t know how to turn my lengths into km yet and maths was never my strong point!! :-)

I will try and work it out and come back!! (promise i will bring snacks for the journey!healthy of course!) :-)

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply to Midnight-munchie

Oh yes definitely MM, the more the merrier :)

Are your laps 25 metres, if so, just give Lizzie the number of laps you've done and she's a maths whiz kid, who's able to calculate anything :)

in reply to moreless

I don't think you do 'laps' in a pool :-) !!

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply to

But you must! We do doggy paddle, we paddle, a dog laps water, we do laps in water, a pool is full of water, therefore we do laps in a pool :D And.....

While scientifically one mile equals 1760 yards or 1609.3 meters, the Avery Aquatic Center follows the standard used by the competitive swimming world, which is 1500 meters or 1650 yards. The following gives the number of laps needed to swim a mile using the different amounts of length:

One lap = two lengths or β€œto there and back”

Definition of a mile (in yards or meters):

1500m –> 30 laps of a 25 yard pool in one mile or 15 laps of a 50 meter pool in one mile

1650yd –> 33 laps of a 25 yard pool in one mile or 16.5 laps of a 50 meter pool in one mile

1760yd –> 35.2 laps of a 25 yard pool in one mile or 17.6 laps of a 50 meter pool in one mile

You only had to google :D

15km walk 3 times 2.5 to and from work

so 105k from me :)

:-) I like that - one 16k run and 'one a bit shorter' - i.e. another quite long run !! 105k is pretty good going Prin :-)
