i need my 3 month blood test as a diabetic. My GP no longer is able to do it at a time i can attend without tacking holiday time from work. His suggestion go to the walk in centre with a request form. Did this they no longer provide this service to GP's. Try the Care centre next door. They do it 8am to 2:30. no guarantee you will get it done on the day.It is also outside of the times i can get. No blood test and my prescriptions will stop and eventually i will be kicked off the GP's list. The last recommendation wait till you have a diabetic incident and go to A&E.

Big problem.

Is it not possible to take any time off work at all?

As you need time off for health reasons your Employer has to allow it I believe. Its only every 3/12 anyway.
