I work in a surgery and as good as the EPS system is we do not make it compulsory. It's great if you need something and you are not in the area at that time. You can choose the pharmacy of your choice. We still have people who like to come in collect the paper prescription.

Hi Bodger2,

A decent and caring GP surgery won’t force, but may encourage patients to use EPS. There are huge advantages on both sides to using it but I do understand entirely that, for the few, it might not be best. For instance, It takes one more human being out of the chain and for the isolated or lonely, I think that’s a really bad idea, because technology is now king and queen and it is taking away more and more human interaction.

So resist if you truly don’t want to use it. Ask to see the practice manager and explain that you won’t be coerced into it and let the surgery bend to accommodate your needs and not vice versa.
