If this is not a normal thing for you Go back to doctor and tell him that this is not fine and not normal. It is impacting on your quality of life and want it investigated to rule out anything serious. While you're at it also tell him that you want your iron levels tested due to the loss of so much blood and as thyroid problems have been linked to prolonged bleeding you would like that tested at the same time. If your doctor refuses to listen, try to see another one that will. It's easy for them to say don't worry it's nothing but if they were in the same situation I bet they wouldn't accept being brushed off like that.
look up mennorhagia i get this instead of a mothly bleed heavy pain clotting etc i stop after a week have a few days breal then i start to bleed again lightly doesnt stop been like this for 4 years w aiting to see gynacologist
i am sorry for the confusion i meant i had the condition for 4 years and on the waiting list to see a gynaecologist hich is about 6-9 months long i am in south wales
I'm going to book an emergency appointment to my Gp today and see what he will tell me if not I will contact a private clinic. Thanks for advice
Whenever a doctor tells you that you are fine, and you leave feeling very worried and that you aren't, then you are not fine. Don't let your doctor intimidate you. You must go back to the surgery for another appointment, not necessarily to see the same doctor, and say that you aren't happy and that you would like a hospital referral for a second opinion please.
You don't give your age. Obviously if you are still of menstruating age, then very long periods often aren't as serious as sudden bleeds that come when you are past that age, but no one can be sure until you are investigated.
You need to set your mind at rest. Make another appointment again and say that you are still worried and that you do want a diagnosis and/or another opinion. You are entitled to this, but if for any reason you are still unhappy, you can make a complaint about your GP surgery. Do this by firstly seeing your Practice Manager. You can also complain directly to NHS England, NHS Wales, NHS Scotland or NHS Northern Ireland, according to where you live. And you can find how to do that online by typing in one of those to a search engine.
Usually that's not necessary and your surgery will try to help you get you reassurance and any further help that you need. If it doesn't, then maybe you need to find another GP practice that will help you better.
