I consider myself quite healthy and have not seen a GP for over 6 years but I have heard and read in the news, that if you have not seen a GP for 5 years, they can strike you off their list. Is this correct?

I understand that they send you two letters before you are removed from the list. I suppose that you just reply to the letters saying that you are still alive and living at the address of the letter and all is OK.
As the other reply says they just want some communication from you once in a while. No need to actually see GP.
This was on the news yesterday and there was going to be a public debate on the radio. Unfortunately, I had to go out and couldn't listen to it. I assume it is a proposal, but a very stupid one as just because you haven't needed a doctor for five years doesn't mean you won't in the future or could it be because they can't make money out of you for drugs and treatment that they don't want to know you!? I, too, would like to know more about this proposal.
They get paid per patient, and some may have moved house or died.
I would have thought someon moveing out of the area would have requested their notes to be forward to the new GP, but I supposenot all people register with a new one especially if they are healthy and don't need to go.
I have a link to the BBC news page about this bbc.co.uk/news/health-36828745
You could write a letter yourself if you are worried.
I don't think you will be struck off just clarify you still want to be a patient.
