Rowing Machine When Pregnant?

Hi All, I am trying to find out if it is safe to use a rowing machine when pregnant. I've asked various people and looked on the net but keep getting conflicting answers. I rowed every day pre pregnancy and now that I've passed the 12 week mark I'm keen to get rowing again. What do you think?

I think any sort of exercise considered as "Light" exercise is fine. I personally believe its only you who 100% knows what you are capable of doing.

Im guessing its as important to keep well hydrated when exercising & i could also be a good idea to take regular breaks for a Lil snack.

If you did it before and you are fit then it will be fine, but be careful not to strain your tummy, I would use a lighter setting than before!

You are not supposed to do stomach crunches or contact sports in pregnancy.

Are you a rower (as in on the water)? Several of my friends who have rowed at a serious level have continued to erg right through pregnancy, until the bump really gets in the way, with no issues. However, they also know how to use the rowing machine properly so there's no risk of back strain etc. If you just use it in a gym normally then I'd be more wary. It can put a lot of strain on the core and lower back so you may want to find an alternative form of exercise. Either way, be a bit more gentle than pre-pregnancy, but definitely keep up the aerobic stuff while you can - once the bump gets big then you won't be able to do it so easily!
