Sore throat - lozenges safe in pregnancy?

Hello ladies,

I’m nearly 11 weeks pregnant and have a cold with sore throat that’s lasting 3 weeks now...been drinking lots of lemon & ginger infusions but was wondering if there are any lozenges that are not medicated and safe for pregnancy that could give me some relief?

I cough a bit in the morning when I wake up and in the evening when I lay down in bed...but never during the day or in the night (that’s good so I can sleep!)

Ps: have no temperature so it’s not coronavirus :)

Thank you 🙏🏻 ❤️

For me hot ribena was great, really soothed the throat, was also told ok to have soothers.

I recommend 2 paracetamol and this drink 🥤:

Manuka Honey , half a squeezed fresh lemon and hot water . You should notice the difference in two to three days 😘

Manuka is expensive but it works. Lidl sells one around £7.50 etc. I put one table spoon 🥄 in .

Hope you feel better soon.

Wow that’s quite a prescription 😍I’ve heard about benefits of manuka honey, need to send hubby to get it 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻Only got normal honey in the house and has made no difference so far! 🙈

Thanks Hun xxx

Sore throats are a common thing in my profession and I can honestly say that this makes a difference . It’s a natural version of lemsip really and you can have it when you need it. Fresh lemons 🍋 are best. You can read about it but the lemons have anti bac properties and vitamin c etc and manuka as loads of stuff too. I hate normal honey but can manage manuka and lemon . Your throat is probably a hormone thing so just find a few ways to ease your symptoms and hopefully you will get by. My mum swears by gargling with salty water ! 🤷🏼‍♀️ if that would help . Love and hugs 🤗 any sweet to suck like clove rock or werthers original (is that how you spell that??)

in reply toRhinoCat

Oh gosh I’m so bad with gargling lol but yes I know that also works well 💗I love fresh lemons 🍋 I squeeze them on everything lol today I’m on the couch and not moving lol 💗

Good for you! Avoid all humans 😘💐💐💐💖💖💖💖💖🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 I recommend the app Myhouseparty if you want fun with your family and friends. You can see everyone once they sign up for free and you can play games. It’s a welcome distraction from all of the doom 😘💖💐

Manuka honey is the best, but I really recommend to get a good quality with highest MGO. It could be quite expensive, around £25-40, but it’s the best. The benefits of it are great. Don’t buy the cheap Manuka, it has very low MGO and don’t think will make much difference.

Hi Issy, hope you're feeling better soon. I remember having the same in earlier days of pregnancy and I have to say you cannot go wrong with honey and lemon in hot water. If you've a stuffy nose aswell I was told that vicks was safe to use so get some of that on your nostrils and have a steamy shower to clear your airways.

Take care love xx

in reply toKayCan

Hi Kay, thank you so much for your advice- yes I have a stuffy nose too! Very very dry actually - so I’m sleeping with my mouth open in the night (what a pretty sight I must be lol) and my throat is sore 🙈

How are you? Not long now 😍❤️

Aww it's awful isn't it, especially as you have to be so careful what you take as it passes to the placenta. Make sure you rest up, with your already lowered immune system it can take that bit longer for you to pick up again ❤

I'm fine thank you Issy, not long at all!! I am seeing the midwife tomorrow, hoping to get some reassurance regarding staff being on hand etc given the current situation. I'm sure all will be fine though 🤞💕

in reply toKayCan

Yes I’m sure all will be fine! Hopefully your midwife will be able to reassure you ❤️Wards are quite quick in bringing in extra staff when needed, don’t worry about that. 💋💋💋💋

I’m soooo dragging myself around 😱first trimester is quite hard- worst thing for me is lack of energies! They don’t come back even when I eat 🙈little bubba is soaking them all up lol 😂😂😂xxx

I really hope that is the case ❤

Aww I remember it well, 1st trimester was the worst, but you'll be over that hurdle in a few weeks. 2nd trimester you'll feel like a new woman 💕

Xx

Omg I really hope so 😂😂😂❤️Thank you!

Hi Issy. I'm really hoping you get better. Please get some advice. I'm watching Good Morning Britian and there's a person who had it but never had a temperature through the whole thing. Sending you all my love. Xxxx

in reply toRainbowhope

Hi Rainbow! Thanks for your concern- I did! Called NHS 111 and they said I don’t qualify 🤞🏻They asked me to self isolate which I’m already doing so....hopefully I’ll feel better soon! Hope you’re well hun xx

I'm glad! I'm okay. WFH is driving me mad but I have to take precautions. My midwife appointment yesterday got cancelled. It's going to now happen over the phone. But nobody will be checking my iron and thyroid as they usually would. I'm slightly stressed but okay. Praying that gets back to normal.

Give boots a call to double check, but I recall lozengers weren't safe. Soothers are okay to have and Vicks.

Here is a thread from before regarding cold aswell might see some more advise.

Hope you get over it soon, and remember if you are concerned at all give your midwife or maternity unit a call x
