Periods post delivery.

Hey girls.

My daughter was born almost 5wk ago and is ebf. My lochia stopped about 2wk ago but yesterday I started bleeding again and its bright red and plentiful. Me and oh did attempt sex twice last week but quite slow and not rigorous. Is this bleeding likely to be my periods returning or could sex with my oh been too soon and this bleeding is a sign of injury? Getting an appointment with gp is a no go as they are fully booked for next 2wks. Any thoughts appreciated xx

It's absolutely normal to bleed and stop and start again, however you really should avoid sex for the first 6 weeks

Are u breast feeding? Could be ur period... hormones are still getting back to normal but some people have their periods. Back after 6 weeks

The reason why they recommend not to have sex before 6weeks is because where your placenta came away is essentially an open wound. My periods came back 4weeks after birth despite exclusively breastfeeding.

Ahhh no one told me the no sex til after 6wk rule and that kinda makes sense. Ive started getting tummy cramps now so think its my period returning much like urself at 5wk post delivery. I was kinda hoping for the breastfeeding to hold them at bay...darn xx

PS: never seen my husband so alarmed as when I informed him that my period had returned and I was now "fully fertile" again

I'd not heard the 6 week rule due to the placenta either! My periods returned about 7 weeks after birth. There again I had to give up breast feeding after a week due to complications. Ive now got a more regular cycle but they're different in terms of length of bleed and 'flow'.
