Spotting at 18 weeks

So I’ve had a bit of brown spotting today with some admoninal pain. I phoned my midwife and she said that the bleeding was probably from having sex at the weekend. I was able to go in and see them and she checked the heart beat, and it was absolutely fine. She again said that the bleeding was probably due to sex and that as it was easing off then she didn’t think I needed to worry and that the pain could be pelvic girdle pain or growing pains.

I’ve had two miscarriages but these were at 5 and 6 weeks. They both started with brown blood which is why I’ve freaked out so much.

I’m trying to take the midwifes advice and not worry but I can’t help but think the worst. I was just getting to the point where I felt like things were going well and I was starting to get excited about the pregnancy and now I feel like I am back to the anxious me. 😢

Anyone got any tips / advice on how to stop worrying.

Thanks

I had the same around the same time as you spotting after sex, you just need to find a position that doesn’t hurt or feel uncomfortable. Since then I haven’t had any, I think in pregnancy you will alway worry, about any little thing. Is this your 1st?

Thanks for the reply. Sex at the time felt fine this time, guess it will just take a bit of experimentation if it keeps happening to know which positions set it off. Fingers crossed it won’t carry on! I’ve had spotting on and off the last time being straight after sex a couple of weeks and the others were all in the first trimester. I think it just threw me this time as it was a couple of days later and I had a few cramps type pains.

This is third time I’ve been pregnant but this is the first one I have gotten this far.

It takes a while to get the right position, a lot of people give up totally. But once you find it, you will be fine. My spotting was a few days after, I was like OMG what’s this, midwife said it’s normal. Are you feeling any movements yet? I felt like flutters around 18 weeks now I’m nearly 29 weeks and full in kicks, summersaults, the whole lot lol x

Yeah she said to me it was normal, which is why I’m trying not to freak. I don’t really want to give up just yet lol.

I think I’ve been feeling flutters for the last week or so, I’m not 100% though. Sometimes feels like wind, pops or hunger but it’s in a different place to normal. I can’t wait to be able to feel proper kicks. When did you start to notice the difference? X

That definitely sounds like your baby, I think it was around 20 weeks when I could tell the kicks, then about 23/24 weeks when I could feel baby turn around, that’s a weird feeling. When you feel a flutter, touch your belly, baby will respond, especially when baby gets bigger. It really is the best feeling in the world xx

I had a missed miscarriage at 8 weeks so know how you felt, because I then got pregnant again and had a lot of bleeding at 19 weeks and assumed it was all happening again. I’d only just had the 20 week scan and had started to relax. It stopped, but then did it again a week later and I had to spend the week in hospital. They never found out what caused it and I now have a 4 year old :) x

I would also stop having sex til you’ve had your 20 week scan incase you have a low lying placenta x

Thanks for your reply. Yeah I think for now I’m going to stop actually. I’m still spotting this morning as I just can’t take the stress. I’ve lost all confidence now, and I was getting so excited before. I just have to believe that it’s just a blip and everything will be fine, but it’s hard. X

Its awful isn’t it. Luckily I had a lot of movement at 19 weeks so I knew baby was ok but I was scared of miscarrying x

That’s good you had lots of movement. I’m hoping once I feel the baby move more and I’ve learnt to recognise it that will help as well and ease my worry. I’d like to think if anything was going to wrong I’d be in loads of pain and the spotting would be getting worse by now. X
