Kidney cyst

A cyst was found on my kidney also after my annual MRI. My primary care doctor sends me for lab work every 3months to see if there is any change in blood levels. My doctor said it is hormonal and will monitor it and then review annual MRI for any changes. It scares me to find out cyst has grown. So far…no change. I will keep you in my prayers.

Relax. Simple kidney cysts are usually harmless and don't cause symptoms.

I’m in agreement Betty’s mom! They were usually incidental finding when I was scanning patients.

This is the good and bad of MRI for MS. They see everything else. Over the years (only 6 for me), the MRI flagged compressed vertebrae, nodules on thyroid and a few other things. I'd rather know and have it checked than not.

You’re right. It’s better to know now than later. I will be followed up to see there are no changes.🙏

I have a cyst on my pancreas which is being monitored. My mother died of pancreatic cancer 19 years ago. Her gastroenterologist, who also treats me and my sister, had the two of us undergo advanced genetic testing due to the family history of pancreatic and colon cancers. We both tested negative but when I saw him last year for GERD he ordered an abdominal MRI which found the cyst. He said it’s not a problem but it needs to be monitored. He confessed- after 19 years- that he was so upset by my mother’s illness that he vowed to not have it repeated in us. I was shocked - he’s not usually a warm and fuzzy guy. I like to examine my brain and spine MRIs and reports for my MS. It’s think it’s interesting. I won’t go ten feet near that abdominal MRI, though, even as they say these cysts become more common as you age and are usually harmless. It scares the heck out of me.
