Not completely understand what's going on with me🤨

I had a UTI last week. It felt like I am having a stroke because my left arm felt tingly, burning and numb to my finger nails. I was rushed to the hospital ER to check me out! The doctor's did MRI to see if anything wrong with my brain. Nothing came up. So the doctor prescribed me some antibiotics for the UTI, aspirin, cholesterol pills and stroke meds(which I didn't have). What do you think it is? Please any comments! Thanks!

I've been told that any sort of infection can make MS (and any other neurological condition) symptoms much worse than normal, so maybe that's what it was.

UTIs can also cause dementia-like symptoms, no-one seems to know why.

I'm just going to echo Kit10's post. Before my MS diagnosis, I had a series of what multiple doctors considered to be TIA's, and I spent a night in the hospital so they could monitor me for "more stroke symptoms" or a heart condition. They put me on cholesterol and b.p. meds. My neuro later stated that he believes they were just a part of my MS.

For some reason, UTI's seem to be much worse than they used to be. My son was hospitalized for a week not too long ago for one that he didn't know he had. The doctors couldn't even identify it at first and were running CT scans every day with multiple blood tests. He was on a morphine drip, and they were concerned about organ failure. Once they ID'd it as a UTI and got him on the correct antibiotics, he was fine, although the meds they had him taking for the next 3 weeks made him feel almost as bad as when he'd first gone to the hospital.

I would say to just make sure you take the full course of antibiotics, contact your doctor(s) if any new symptoms develop, and just bide your time. Sending hugs.

How old is your son that had the UTI?

He's 32. He has IBS, gastroparesis, and a variety of other issues.

If you have an infection (such as a UTI) where your temperature is raised it can result in what is known as a pseudo-relapse.

The MRI that was done was probably precautionary to check that you weren't having either a "real" relapse or whether there was some other cause for your symptoms such as a stroke.

When I was young I had UTIs and didn't think they were nothing more than uncomfortable. Now that I'm older, I realize they can be extremely serious! So, be alert and take care of yourself!

I'd just like to add that you should let your doctor know if you aren't feeling better in a few days. Sometimes the antibiotics take a while to kick in, but it's best to keep your doctor informed. I hope your tingling, etc. goes away with the infection, and that it will happen soon!

First off I hope you are contacting your Neuro about your problems. I would also like to add that foods containing Caffeine, carbonation,acidic foods,& even foods with artificial sweeteners can cause &/or exacerbate a UTI.
