Gallbladder, ongoing saga

I finally worked up the courage to call my GP this morning, and I have to be at the hospital at 7:30 am tomorrow for an ultrasound. I'm terrified of what they might find, because what if it's not my gallbladder after all. Wish me luck, please!

Sending positive energy & healing vibes your way! I applaud your courage taking your symptoms to your doctor. Although scary, it's a necessary test. Best of luck getting your ultrasound test early tomorrow morning! 😇🙏🙂🤞

You got this! 😁. Sending 🙏 your way. I have not had my gallbladder removed but throughout the years my mother, sister, and both sons have and they're doing fine no issues at all since.

Hi NorasMom,

I’m so glad you made the decision to seek help. I’m sure no matter what the outcome is the Dr.s will be able to take care of it and you’ll be out of pain.

Please keep us informed and best of luck to you!

Good luck 🤞🫂 I wish my GPs are as quick as yours, but I live in the UK, where the NHS is failing (thanks tory scum) and doctors are moving to private hospitals 😔 But anyway, good luck again, and if you have any updates you're comfortable with sharing, please let us know. We're all behind each other in the MS family ❤️

I have a British penpal who also has MS, so I hear about the NHS all the time. 😁 My surgery will be on Tuesday morning but not at the hospital. There's a new building that has done all of my blood work, and apparently they do minimally-invasive surgeries on the second floor.

Mum's excited because there's a family restaurant next door, so while I'm being sliced and diced, she's going to take my kids out to eat. Talk about unfair!

A thank you to everyone for keeping me in your thoughts. As a fat smoker, I'm pretty nervous about getting general anesthesia.

Don't be scared 🫂 I've done a placement in a theatre where people would be having a total knee replacement, and the patients would be fine when they woke up in recovery. I think a lot of them are smokers. My mum's a smoker, and she wasn't scared when she went in for a procedure called a parathyroidectomy (she had hyperthyroidism). I'm a smoker myself!

Thank you! That helps a lot. Mum's a nurse, but she did her training back in the days when the girls lived next door to the hospital and started out scrubbing bedpans and cooking coddled eggs for the patients. She's absolutely terrified, but then she also sees MS as a fatal disease. 😰

It's ok to reach out for other people's experience and such ❤️🫂 my great aunt's also a nurse, and is still working as an A&E nurse. I do remember her smoking when I was a lot younger, but I'm unsure if she still does. I still put her as my influence to start going into nursing, if not the triage nurse who did a pupil reaction test where I had a seizure as she did my left eye 😅 don't worry, it was only a simple partial one (aka a petit mal, for older healthcare workers) but it still shocked her when my pupils didn't react.

How are you doing, norasmom? I am scrolling thru posts I have missed. So your surgery is over by now. How did it go? I have been MIA for most of November. My mom died on 11/6, plus I am training my replacement at work. So I have let the posts stack up. Isn't it odd how a little organ like a gall bladder can make you sick as poop?

I am so sorry for your loss. No surgery yet. I go in for a different test on Tuesday, then we'll figure things out from there. The surgeon thinks I have a lot more wrong than just a gall bladder, but I've been feeling fine for the last week or so.

Good news/bad news. The good news is that my gall bladder's in great shape! The bad news is that it's full of stones that can only be removed with surgery, and apparently it's not optional. I'm waiting to hear back on that, because my GP's in a different county and unfamiliar with the surgeons at my hospital. She has to track down one who can do it.

I got the call while we were having a good ol' time Christmas shopping, and I barely made it to the parking lot before I had a meltdown.

Hi NorasMom how are you feeling? I know lm late in the game here... but lm here! 🤗 When is the surgery? 🤗💕🌠

NorasMom profile image

Well, I feel pretty cr*ppy. But either I misunderstood or my doctor's office did. They specifically told me that they were going to find someone to do the surgery and then call me with a date. But there is no surgery. There may be no surgery, at least with this guy.

When I wasn't given any instructions, I called the surgeon's office and found out that he has to meet with me in person first, and then even if he determines that I do need surgery he may not be willing to do the operation himself. Then I get to start everything all over again with someone else. If he does agree, I have to sign some kind of contract before they'll schedule it.

The stress is kicking up my MS symptoms on top of everything else, so I'm miserable and don't have a clue what's actually happening. Hopefully, it'll be explained a little better on Tuesday morning.

I was about ten years into my ms when I got the gallstones. They of course made my ms worse but once I got the surgery, I was better. No pain there anymore. You may be hesitant but you are going to do fabulous! They do it orthoscopically so no big scar. It was a pretty quick procedure. In and out no problems

The only thing I will say is the recovery room is just lots of people passing the gas they put in your belly for the surgery so be prepared but it’ll all be fine👍

Had mine removed about 20 years ago. Please try not to be afraid! Gall bladder surgery is way less intrusive and your body will adjust fine to it’s absence. I will definitely pray for you!
