if MS takes 5x the energy than why doesn’t it burn 5x the fat 😂

Can anyone refer any exercises? Preferably sitting down ones.

I have resorted to yoga. I want more

I prefer tai chi. I attached a sit down version through YouTube. I hope it works for you 🙂youtu.be/tbwbL1pg0HY

I believe there are older posts here about exercise and something called the MS gym, might be on YouTube. I think it's chair friendly!

You could start with a set of light dumbells and do seated presses, flyes and curls etc in a chair or recliner for upper body strength.

There are a lot of chair exercises out there on YouTube and Instagram. Also try pilates. Just do a search on "chair" or "seated" exercise. Depending on how good your balance is, you might try exercise ball movements as well. Some days I can do those and some days I can't.

I tried Pilates. I got that idea from my cat 😂. I liked it when I was able, but today I hurt myself :(. YouTube is my best bet. Thank you for your input!

for me, I do feel like my formerly usual activities use more energy and burn more calories 🤷‍♀️

definitely burn more energy. More calories too? That’s cool if it does!

I do seated yoga, adaptive pilates and a full body exercise class every week. I live in Atlanta and am part of the Shepherd Center MS Wellness Program. But, you can find all kinds of adaptive exercises on YouTube or through AARP. And yes, yoga is very good for MS.

Someone on the radio once recommended a simple seated exercise to lose weight, it went like this:

"Place hands on edge of dining table, and push yourself back."

I've never tried it myself, sounds a bit extreme ! 😀

thank you. Lol. I use the wall and stand on good days. I will try that on my weaker days

I discovered chair yoga earlier this year and it's really starting to make a difference.I tried and tried but could not loose weight. Since I've started it. I've gone down almost 10 pounds. You can't download a free app on your android or Apple device called yoga go and it's pretty intense. If do you wanna make it a little tougher you could always add some light weights to put in your hands and ankle weights to put around your ankles. That would really step it up a notch. I hope this helps just go to the app store or the Apple store and look for Yoga Go and then download it. You'll be amazed if you stick with it every day the difference it'll make. Fancy59.

thank you! I didn’t think of looking on Apple store! It’s duh but that’s why I ask - it wasn’t obvious to me! I have ankle weights I could strap to my wrist too right? If not I do have the free weights. Thank you so much!

Hi, Xvettech! I just purchased 2 dvd's from Better5.com. I wanted gentle exercises. It is mostly for senior adults, but there's seated stuff there that should work for us too. I am learning (from the dvd) that "chair yogo" does not always mean "seated" yogo. There's some standing involved, holding onto a chair!! Oh well. The dvd's are just $15 each.

Seated tai chi. Must look into that.

Last summer I broke my ankle requiring a plate 7 screws and no weight on that ankle for 6 months. Part of my recovery involved PT. PT introduced exercises to strengthen my legs, core and arms. I love them, great stretches, bridges, planks, elastic bands for resistance and stretching. I also found yoga for a broken ankle in utube, found a woman who teaches yoga for people with MS or yoga for a fat girl, same woman, MSAA has links to utube to her sight. Start slow and enjoy, all doable, minimal cost and so beneficial. I am 60 and am looking at senior center fitness offerings, check out your local senior center. Good luck send some motivation my way. Peace

it’s amazing how much we can do on our own for free, I have done both In classes and on my own. A in person class pushes me more wish I could push myself more at home. Keep moving can’t hit a moving target. Happy Mother’s Day make sure to thank that person who is or is like a mother to you. Pet mamas count too they are our forever babies.

i posted on someone else's post about this, but there are dvd's of seated workouts. i used to belly dance quite well if i say so myself.😀 there's no way i can do all the spinning without braining myself, so i do their seated belly dance. on amazon, it/s "chair aerobics for everyone," though a lot of people dislike it. i bet you could find some seated workouts on youtube.
