Thalamic atrophy

Hello... I’m still in limbo land. I have another test tomorrow- a urodynamics test. I am retaining urine for some unknown reason.

Anyways, my Neuroquant report says that “bilateral Thalamic atrophy is seen.” What does that mean?

It says “the total flair and t2w hyperintensity count is 22 with a lesion volume of 4.07cm3.

The lesions are located: 1 in Leukocortical; 11 in periventricular; and 10 in the deep white matter.

The regular MRI report says no demyelination- which I know that is good.

I am a 43 year old female. Seems like a lot of lesions (although I don’t have anything to compare that to) and the thalamic atrophy concerns me.

Any thoughts?

I must admit that I had to google it. When you see your doctor have him explain everything clearly and in layman’s terms. Make list of your questions and take it with you so you don’t forget what you need to ask him. Praying it all goes well, blessings Jimeka 😊

I have spent way too much time on google this last week 😕I am super confused. Nothing good comes up when I try to look up the thalamic issue. I end up going down the rabbit hole.

I will finally see the neurologist on Monday. I hope she has some answers for me or at least an idea of what she feels may be going on. I did really like the neurologist. She was very kind and compassionate, which I truly appreciated.

It’s half the battle when you like your neurologist and doctor. Let us know how you get on. 😊

I do believe that the brain and spinal cord shrink i have had hit my head 6 times that 3 of which are traumatic head injuries but iam 52 in aug. Iam walking talking but brain atrophy is something we all experience not just ms patients so please keep your head up and keep smiling 😊
