Okay, I so appreciate your input...I am just trying to prepare for my first appointment with the neurologist. It has been four months like this..

I know many on here have gone much longer.

I can barely write. Thanks. I got it.

,,,,, do. Hi Redhead4377

What really works for is neurontin(aka gabapentin).

I used to , for real, put my arms in the freezer( literally)!

Anti-depressants didn't help me but everyone is different ?!??

God bless

Do you mean “antidepressants ?” Everyone is different, but I’ve read from some folks here that they have been helped by them. I hope your neurologist will help you sort it out.

Let us know what he/she says. I hope you get relief quickly.

I have my notes ready and for Tuesday, I will share with everyone

Isn't that the truth! I couldn't take Gabapenten..well, I did, but passed out and hit a telephone pole with my car, and decided it was not in my best interest to take anymore. Everything my Neuro prescribed for pain seemed to increase my seizures....I can't imagine why we would need anything for anxiety, can you? Thanks for your reply! I've told all my Dr's they can have all my meds, whatever they want, EXCEPT for the EFFEXOR XR! That one keeps me going!

Despite various medical protocols for stopping it, unfortunately Effexor is one the the anti-depressants that some people are never able to stop - not because of depression problems but because of massive withdrawal problems that don't go away.

therecoveryvillage.com/effe...

Aropax is another one that can cause similar withdrawal issues but the medical profession seems to want to only admit that this can last up to 90 days :(

therecoveryvillage.com/paxi...

The list of withdrawal symptoms on this page sounds just like having MS!!! Whey hey - that's the way to go..........

verywellmind.com/paxil-with...

The docs like to call this withdrawal problem "discontinuation syndrome" - as if by giving it a fancy name people will happily gobble anti-depressants like sweets. these drugs do have a place in medicine but I think there are far too many docs handing them out like Smarties.

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

I personally know several people who have tried several times to get through the withdrawal problems but have never been successful and are not able to stop taking their anti-depressants. I was on Aropax for a short while about 30 years ago and had the withdrawal problem before it was even acknowledged to exist. Now, I will do almost anything I can to avoid taking anti-depressants, and over the years have managed to learn some strategies to keep the Black Dog at bay, not always 100% successfully, but enough to avoid taking these rather risky meds.

I will always share. I have a whole page of notes to pick his brain

I've been on anti-depressants for nearly 30 years. They help me a lot! I don't think I could make it without them, certainly at this point...I take Effexor XR 150 mg, twice a day... Linda

I do too but for " anxiety disorder"probably stemming from issues. Also, take clonopin .05 mg three times per day.

People tend to 😱 the unknown.

MS seems to be(I've been told ) are a "jittery group" of people!

Go figure

Hi there...Yes Trileptal works for me too, along with Advil. Works together nicely!

It seems to be used for patients with bipolar disorders and seizures. Does well with MS pain,

I'm glad they help so many of you. Years ago my neuro had me try them. Along with all the others. Telling me only that they may help with some of my M.S. symptoms??? Did them as prescribed for about a year. Never helped me with the tingling or pain, nor any of the many, many other things. ????After about a year, I was told I could stop them if I wanted, as they weren't doing anything for me as he had hoped, including my mood! Said 80+ hour high stress weeks, year after year takes more than anti-depressants to help. Would like to have said step aside xyz, this is a job for alcohol! But who could even think that either?...., when every last itsy bit of energy was needed to get things done? Who could afford to? One sip of anything alcoholic and I'd be out cold. Only to wake up in a panic about what didn't get done because I slept when I should have been...... Though when I did stop the antidepressants, it was one less script to pick up and take? But when you're on so many, did it really make any difference? Funny thing, I was ever so happier off them? One less drug to take!?! But I thought they were "happy pills"? Sorry, those I guess are the candy samples they hand out as you walk by the candy store at the mall! They didn't help the pain or tingling either! BUT, they did seem to make you happy but for a moment!

Interesting replies from all.....Thank you. I am just hoping for relief from this numbness.....

But after reading through your responses....It might just be something I have to learn to live with.

Difficult to wrap my head around that right now....because it makes everything so difficult to do. But it sounds like many of you do just that------

Blessings to all.
