“Why aren’t you taking DMDs?” “That depends,What pharmaceutical company do you represent?”

New doctor asked me this. She didn’t like my response and said, “I would be remiss as a physician if I didn’t tell you all your options.” I replied, “So of course you’ll tell me about diet acupuncture, yoga, meditation, exercise, and other forms of holistic care?” It’s very hard to be your own advocate when doctors are getting kickbacks from the pharmaceutical companies.

Are you in an area where this doctor is your only choice as a health care professional? If not, then keeping searching. Here, in the Northeast, there are many doctors to choose from. I have had my share of doctors that do not listen, so I continued my search. It is so important to be comfortable with your healthcare provider. Keep Smiling, deedeedah :-D

i always like to say if you don't like what i am saying then don't ask me the question ....we all have our own opinions about just anything and yes some doctors are about what is offered with a bonus and i don't think they should be doctors for we depend on what is true about drugs or what ever you are asking them ...we just want the truth ...we don't want to die from a drug not yet well tested ...we have to be careful ...i agree .....

Do what’s best for you

I'm not on any DMDs. I had a new doctor once (and not for long) that kept pushing Tecfidera which had just come out. The first visit she gave me the info so I could take it home and review it. At my next visit I said no thanks. She kept pushing and I kept saying no thanks. I have my reasons and she knew what they were, mostly related to other health issues and being JCV+. By the third visit she was still pushing and also talking down to me, like I was an idiot for not starting Tecfidera. I asked her if she owned stock in the company. And then I found another doctor who respected my decisions.

I often wonder if MDs in our situation would take e meds or seek alternative care

in reply to deedeedah

Terry Wahls is an internal medicine MD and teaches at the University of Iowa. She turned to other modalities when the DMDs weren't stopping her progression.

Drs should respect our decisions and not push certain drugs. If we don't like option A, give us other options. Pushing a drug like the way that one was, wonder what kind of kickbacks they are receiving if a patient goes it?

Every situation in life has a message Doc told me I was having seizures. She saw it but I’m alert and assumed it was a tic. I have my holistic doctor treating it manually and I went from 6 seizures a day to none in a month

I so wish there was a holistic doc out here in middle of nowhere. Closest i have is an awesome chiropractor. He said that most doctors focus on the medicine but not the body itself.

My holistic doc is a chiro who does applied kinesiology and NAET Her care and supplement testing has kept me as healthy as possible

My chiro is becoming a wellness something or other for nutrition and stuff. He does supplements too. And he understands neuro issues cuz he had a brain tumor

MD's do but DO's don't. Look for a DO. They take many more years of schooling and look at all types. Mine (that I loved but retired) even did some chiropractic moves for my son's neck.

I see a Holistic chiropractor She diagnosed me long before the doctors could

I had a Functional Medicine doc in the town I just moved from. She was awesome. I live in the suburbs of a big city now and I'm sure they are around. Just need to find the right one.

You take what works. Hopefully they will be honest and give you a choice of DMTs.

I flat out told the doctor that I am NEVER taking pharmaceuticals I’ll use essential oils and holistic strategies

Do you have something specific you follow or just figure it out as you go? I'm not diagnosed, still going through testing, but this is something that I would like & it's not easy on your own, I can't find a holistic doctor that accepts my insurance & don't have the money to pay cash right now, especially since I'm still in LTD limbo.

I’m confused as to why you went to see a neurologist? You seem pleased with the holistic doctor and getting good results. You have to do what is best for yourself.

I was having a symptom that I couldn’t get to stop After doctor said that it was seizures I had my holistic doctor treat me for them All gone now

I wholeheartedly agree!!! I've had MS for 30 years and have never taken any DMD.I have been treated horribly by Neuro Dr's for not parkaking.I agree to diet, exercise, chiro, accupuncture, massage, etc.Hang on tightly sister and do not let them intimidate or frighten you into taking drugs that you do not feel comfortable taking!Be strong and Resolved.have you heard of LDN and is to diets? Also the Wahls protocol? I am following that.God bless!

I follow the Best Bet diet Matt Emery’s Dad healed his son”s MS when he researched how to “cure” the disease and wrote a protocol that Dr Wahl read and improvised as her own

Do you happen to know the name of the book? Was it written by Matt Emery? And what year was it written? I would be very interested to look into it and see the similarities. Thanks for the info

Dr Ashton Embry is the Dad Google Living Proof Matt Embry

Made a documentary about his diagnosis and his Dads writings Dr Wahl is featured and says she followed Dr Ashtons protocol

I had a neurologist that refused to listen and he suggested a DMD that I also refused to take. But get this: when I went back to him asking to try it he said he never did suggest it! But since he couldn’t push anything else, he did prescribe it. But took me off of it after one test! I was so angry 😡He told me that it wasn’t really working but it was a psychosomatic response. It was time to get a new neurologist.

She read my Dr’s notes & looked at my tests & said that my body can’t take the DMD’s & put me on vitamin D (which my body also can’t handle, I was having double vision) She referred me to another doc in her office and he’s great too. I’m so grateful to my friend who suggested her-> his response to her way of doing things was noticed by me & he gave me her number. I am now content.

So if you don’t hear about any drs that have good communication skills their are alternatives as seen in other responses 😊

if you wanted to get worse slower why would you not take disease Modifying therapy? (DMT)

deedeedah profile image
deedeedah in reply to RoyceNewton

What constitutes getting worse ? Increased lesions happen with meds too I have many more lesions 8 years later. PT told me I’m doing so much better than when I came in 8 years ago. Put in the work Change how you nourish your body, exercise your live being, do some meditation to heal your brain and soul And I ride a motorcycle because you can’t beat wind therapy

RoyceNewton profile image
RoyceNewton in reply to deedeedah

al good ideas and I agree with them, remember this is a progressive illness, Getting worse is progressing, DMT is designed to slow that progression no more

Midgey_Midge06 profile image
Midgey_Midge06 in reply to RoyceNewton

Ya but getting worse cud be poisoning ur body with a DMT. Its all subjective
