We had 137 kids come to the door this year, which is about average. My husband couldn't sit down before the bell would ring again.

137 ? Unfortunately with Razor being poorly and my hubby was at work, we had to go to bed where my hubby knows we are safe. I only saw 8 . Sounds like the dentist will be busy with all those sweets 😊

I'm sorry. Is Razor doing any better?

Very slowly, they think that it is arthritis in his left back hip, giving him a lot of pain. Thanks for your prayers. We have started the steroid taper but he is still on gabapentin. Blessings Jimeka 🤗

So sorry to hear about Razor. Is it possible to get glucosamine supplements for him. I have been taking it for years for my aggressive Osteoarthritis. Relieves the inflammation. Hope you are both feeling better soon. 🐶🐶💜💜 Lynn

137? Now that's being a bit too exacting, even for me, and ex-engineer!? What means did you use to count? The simple hand push button counter, or something more sophisticated like a photo eye or recordings off your ring doorbell?

With the Halloween blizzard of 2019 here in the midwest, I do know I shoveled 4 times, salting each time, trying to keep the steps up to the door clear for the kids. I was really surprised any made it. Yeah, I remember the days. Nothing was going to stop them in the pursuit of lots of free candy! But, luckily the wind stopped blowing right about the time Trick or Treat started after school. Kids had a hard time grabbing candy from the buckets with their mittens, so we started tossing into their bags. But, after a bit it was obvious we bought too much candy, so it was huge fist fulls for anyone that showed up. After it was all over, we still had a lot left over. But proudly I had not one piece! Nor did I even want any. Though I confess, I did have a few the next day, and literally felt too sick for dinner thereafter. Luckily, earlier the next day, when I spoke to my neighbor, I was already pulling out the decorations from the snow. All the lighted pumpkins, the lighted eyes,....the monster spiders out of the bushes,...I mentioned I didn't notice his kids the day before. Okay, I wasn't the only one giving out candy, but, I was still near by watching and listening as I ate the traditional hot halloween chili, healthy of course, as healthy as I could come up with. I asked if they were in the one big crowd of maybe 20-30 kids that all came as one group, like the crowds racing to a sale at the mall for teen this or that as the store opens. He said yes, they were in the "mob". So I told him I'd be back to trick or treat later that next day at their house when his kids got home from school, and I was going to get rid of all that was left. He told me, when HE asked a group of kids when they came to his house, what they wanted, and they said "something good to eat", he pulled out a head of broccoli and laughed and laughed! I said, I would have taken it, said thank you very, very much, and ran in joy. (Broccoli is on sale I see from the flyers and it's on my shopping list!) Anyway, based on the amount of candy left, compared to what we bought....yeah, I think YOU had a lot more than us. Anyway, when the neighbors showed up the day after, in their costumes because I did not notice them, with empty bags. I thanked them profusely, and FILLED their bags! I was so happy.., they might have been too with full bags again, but mom and dad?? I know their dentist will be happy too! Speaking of dentists....I got a call from mine on Halloween???? Following up wanting me to make an appointment with respect to my preventative care! That was scary!!!! Calling the Dentophobic on Halloween! Give me self injected shots, surgeries, (I actually used to look forward to the anesthesia rests), procedures you don't even want to hear about, the thought of you'd...., anyway, the sound of a dentist's drill, even in the next room! Can they not design them to be silent??? When I was deciding what type of engineering to go into, bio-engineering was one option, new at the time. I should have gone that route. If I just tackled that one thing, I could have been rich!

You’re funny. When we moved to this neighborhood three years ago, a neighbor warned us we would get about 300 kids. My husband thought it would be a good idea to count so we’d have a good idea how much candy to buy. Even though we had about 150 that year, he still buys the same amount of candy. I suggested that he might be turning into his grandfather. When I first went to his house to meet him, I was bewildered by the tick marks on the tissue box on the back of the toilet. Fred used to install the “2000 Flushes” toilet cleaner and then count to make sure he got his promised number of flushes.

When my son moved into his house (remember, he and we are in Deep South Texas...literally 5 miles from the border), he has no idea what a big deal Halloween is down here. He and his wife went to dinner after work, and when they came home, could not get into their neighborhood for all the traffic! Parents drop off carloads of kids at the end of one block, then make their way to wait for them several blocks over. He thought he learned the following year, and bought 10 buckets of sour punch straws, 50 to a bucket. He had us come over and set up a table at the end of the driveway and we sat behind the table while he and his wife got the little one dressed to go trick or treating. We had strict instructions of only “one per customer”, yet we ran out within an hour and a half. 500 kids...and they were still coming! But my biggest takeaway from all of that - every single kid, from the tiniest to the oldest, said “Thank you, sir” or “Thank you, mam”.

We usually set up in the garage and let the kids pick out candy and pose for selfies with our yard inflatables, but weather squashed all that this year. We probably only had 50 kids, instead of 150. They were troopers though! And so polite! 🥰

It’s my favorite holiday 🎃 and it was still fun!

Our Halloween was great. As we live in a small gated subdivision, our trick or treaters were few (much to my granddaughter’s disappointment, when she and her parents came to visit and trick or treat in our neighborhood.). We only had 5 kids trick or treaters at our house, and out of the 40 houses in our subdivision, only 6 or 7 “paid off”, so we loaded up and went to a neighboring, non-gated community and she got to trick or treat to her heart’s content. Hubby and I got into a discussion, as we are sitting in the car while she and her parents are going house to house. “Isn’t it interesting - we spend 364 days out of the year teaching our kids not to take candy from strangers, then on one day we send them begging for candy at strangers houses”. What a strange tradition.

I'm glad your family had a nice Halloween. I found it alarming that so many young children came in the dark without any parents or older relative.

I agree. Thankfully, all of the young ones I saw had a twitter least one parent, but in the majority of cases both parents right there with them.

Wow! I did not even get one trick or treater this year likely due to the weather not being that great but we went to my mother in laws and sisters neighborhoods and trick or treated and they had many kids out! Glad you had a nice halloween as well. 😀
