MY NEW NEUROLOGIST

Because my former neurologist completely ignored me during those 9 mos. of horrible nerve pain in the knee, I sought out a new one. He is at Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, a 2-hr ride for me but so was the former one. Northern AZ is very rural and the medical care isn't great, but living here is well worth a drive to Phoenix! Anyway, when we met, my first question to him was: "Will you listen to me?" He looked surprised and said "Of course." Then I asked: "Will you hear me?" And he said that he works in partnership with his patients, and relies on their reportage to determine the right course of treatment. I found a keeper!

Congrats 🎉🎈🎊 on finding someone who values 2-way communication since so many Drs love to hear themselves talk. {you received what we sometimes want = (Dr’s care -> 🤐&🧐 then 🤨+🙂 }

Thanks to all of you. I have a big mouth and a viper's tongue when I need it (I was a litigator, after all), and I don't mind telling off doctors and/or firing them. When my husband went into respiratory arrest followed by the stroke in 2005, I was firing doctors wholesale and bringing in my own. I learned at a very young age that you will always know your body best, even if you have the best medical team on earth. If they pull the god routine, or just plain ignore you, run as fast as you can. Everyone needs to be able to partner with their medical team to manage their care, but sometimes a doc that you might have been with a long time feels like a security blanket no matter what and it gets hard to walk away. No patient should ever forget that your doc works for you, just like your lawyer, your accountant or your gardener. And if the relationship doesn't work, fire them and find another with whom you can work. It's your health that matters. Period.

Wish it was that easy. Dr. Foley Dx me 3 years after my Nurse Practitioner.

You have M.S, check at the front desk, bye.

Decided to try female Neurologist,

First one said,"Your here for disability,"

I should have walked out, I know.

Unfortunately I was in remission when I saw her. Saw a third female Neuroigist all from Salt Lake City.

The third said you don't have M.S. as I stood up leaning on my cane. I have not seen a neurologist for at least 10 years, why pay to talk to an as*hol*, I can do that for free.

Congratulations! It’s so important to be able to have an honest dialogue with your doctor.
