Swelling
Hi doveflyfree i am sorry that you are suffering from swelling. I get it around my right knee joint and right ankle. The only thing that really works for me is elevation. Are you taking any type of diuretic to help alleviate the fluid build up? Keep us informed as to how you go on. Blessings Jimeka 🦋
doveflyfree Despite my activity level, I have edema in my lower extremities. Diruretics/elevation were not helpful nor was a change in blood pressure medications. What does help is wearing compression stockings. To be honest, I wear them because my legs feel better when the swelling is reduced, but I hate them. They are hot (what will I do when it's high summer around here?), ugly, and take forever to put on over my stiff, bandaged right ankle. I put them on first thing in the morning and take them off before I go to bed.
Hi goat gal!! Thank you for sharing with me. I can't even put my own compression stocking on by myself . I need help from my aid. I am Frustrated with this swelling and wondered if anyone else felt like me. Obviously you do feel the same way. The swelling makes it hard to walk around and is ugly on me. I'm struggling with it!! I'm sorry!!
I found compression stockings for runners on Amazon: they come in lots of patterns and colors as well as packs of seven. So I invested in an array of wild patterns (stripes, neon colors, puppy dogs, clocks, etc.) If I have to wear compression stockings to deal with this horrid edema, I am going to celebrate my inner wild woman. When summer comes, and it's too hot for my jeans, I will wear my usual loose knee length shifts and shock passers by with my crazy legs!
I noticed when I blew off my daily walk, my foot on my bad leg swelled up.
As soon as I started moving again,it improved.
Doveflyfree - do you know what’s causing your swelling? Have you had bloodwork done recently and if so was the Sodium level within the range? Did they check your kidney functions e.g. protein spill, creatinine levels and others? Have you reduced or eliminated sodium intake? That can help regardless of the underlying cause. No injuries to your legs? Have you been checked for Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD)? Any other issues or symptoms like difficulty breathing it heart related? How certain are you that it was Lyrica generated? Were you taking it for a long time or just initial usage. Noted among the potential side effects of a bad reaction to Lyrica is swelling of the feet and hands. Apparently this is recognized both as a common side effect as well as a symptom from a bad reaction. How long has this been going on and did it coincide with your use of Lyrica? Have you been to a vascular specialist? Is there anything else you can think of the coincided with the onset of the swelling?
I suffer from severe swelling and have for a number of years now. Back in November my doc prescribed laser/ablation which sent me to Vein clinics of America. This is basically the same type thing they use for treating varicose, and to help prevent blood clots from forming. etc. Towards the end of my treatment the wheels fell off so to speak. Now the swelling is worse in my right leg and everything, skin, muscle and bone hurt like heck now. I stopped treatment.
I wear knee high, open toed compression socks since I can’t stand to have my toes compressed like that (yet another story for another time).
I was prescribed 20 mg of Lasix once per day. They don’t seem to help and I try not to take as they are bad for the heart (?).
I buy bigger shoes to accommodate both the swelling and another problem (yep, another time) but my feet and legs from the knee down have been selling so bad lately that I have difficulty getting shoes off and my socks are imprinting on my skin. I too need help putting the socks on and taking them off since my spine doesn’t bend anymore. My swelling is believed to be associated with my kidney disease.
The swelling is at its worst in the evening and approaches normalcy after a night in bed. But it’s gotten so bad that my legs have been developing tiny ruptured which allows very small quantities of the fluid to ooze out. It’s kind of like I’m self-basting!
I see my doc in a few days and plan on discussing potential solutions and/or mitigation if it can’t be prevented. I’m more than a little concerned about Compartment syndrome.
Please keep us informed.
