We love old movies and tend to quote them often, usually to be funny. I've always loved this quote from the movie "Harvey." It isn't funny, but it's so sweet. It also helps me keep my mouth shut sometimes. (sometimes!)
Years ago my mother used to say to me, she'd say, "In this world, Elwood, you must be," - she always called me Elwood - "In this world, you must be oh so smart, or oh so pleasant." Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant. You may quote me.

My stepdaughter could get our old pug to "sing." It was a horrible sound that made us laugh until we cried. His "song" always ended with a gravely "yum, yum, yum." I miss that. Our auxiliary pug won't do it.
