Hello everyone,

I have been diagnosed with early january 2018. I am 25. I only started to recieve Ty 2 months ago. Yesterday I was at uni and a situation triggered me to become down, like nothing was worth while. Today i woke up with the same feeling tiredness and feeling down. I dont know if i should consider the fact that i may have depression or is it just from the incident? Thank you all for reading.

Toni2142 depression is a thing we all have to deal with, have you checked about your medicines you are taking sometimes it can be from the medicines you can ask your doctor or even call your pharmacist they are full of so much information. I can get depressed sometimes it happens so quickly and it’s something I have to try to work it out by trying to change the things you are doing. Go for a walk call a friend just to see how they are doing. I’ve had to make sure when I talk to someone I try so hard not to talk about me and not to be negative. This is how a conversation went when I was talking to my sisters I asked questions about how she was doing and her new granddaughter was doing I ended up talking about politics I know never talk about that subject. But when I got off the phone I did feel pretty good that I didn’t talk about how I was really feeling. What I am trying to say just try to do something different

I hope you feel better soon and if that doesn’t work call your doctor that’s why they get the big bucks.

Feel better soon 👍🎈😊🎁🎊🌷🌹💐🌸

I’m so glad you are going to try to do something different I know it’s hard I had to retire two years ago that was not my choose but let’s not go there, so being alone during the day can be not the greatest but I’ve come to deal with it. Now I try to have a schedule and make sure I do something during the day. My husband when he comes home from work he will say, so what have you done today sometimes I’ll say I did a few things but other days I will say not much I was tired today and he will say well you know you have MS so that’s ok, you’re supposed to get tired it does happen. So either way it makes me feel good he gets it. So remember we all have our up and down days. Your not alone. But talking to others is a good thing. And this web site is also a good thing. Your not alone here. We’re all in that same boat. We don’t always talk about MS remember when it was below 0*f oh we would talk about that. So you can post a question and people will answer it sometimes it’s unbelievable how it gets answered. But like jesmcd2 said we are not doctors so when you need to ask a doctor question reach out and ask them. Hang in there this is a disease that is like a roller coaster keep on Smiling 😊👍😃😄

Hi Toni2142 and welcome to the roller coaster ride of your life! I hope you like them!😀😒 🙃

Being just dxed with MS can be a streeser in itself! So for a depressed mood to show up now and again I would assume to be normal. ~Note!!!! I am NOT A DR! NOR DO I PRETEND TO BE! ~

I do not take depression lightly tho!!! Ask ssdw1958 😂

So Talk to your health care team! As MS and depression go hand in hand sometimes!

Surround yourself with happy! And smile at Someone today!

🤗💕

We do understand... We are all the same. Someone is bound to be close to or even at where you are. We don't like it😒 but together we fight it! 😀

Have you used the My MS Manager yet? It can help keep track of moods🤔

I’m sorry you’re feeling low. A certain amount of that is “normal” or expected with your diagnosis, but when you’ve done all you can to lift yourself out of it and you still feel low, please consider letting your doctor know. Sometimes a simple medication change or addition can help enormously.

I sure pray you feel better soon, but we all vent here with people who understand. Let us know how you’re getting along.,

Toni2142 you have taken the first step to fight depression , you have found our group. When I feel depressed I allow myself no more than 15-30 minutes to feel down and then go on to something else. I really helps to meditate or listen to music. 😀😀

Toni2142 I'm glad you're asking the question. Depression is a very real possibility—it can be a side effect of some of the medications, it can be just another of the many things MS does our brain/nervous system, and of course it's very possible to simply feel down because of what we're going through.

You mentioned feeling that nothing was worthwhile. For me, when I start noticing that feeling I know it's time to get professional help because things tend to spiral downward from there. While also seeking professional help this is the time that you most need to seek positive social interaction and support to help get you through.

It could be that this is just a passing feeling that goes away in a few days (fingers crossed!) but if it doesn't, or if it keeps getting worse, I hope you will reach out to a health care provider. Depression is just another health issue, nothing to be ashamed of.

Take care of yourself!

welcome to a great site. I am privileged to be a very depressed person [sarcasm]. For the last few weeks I've been dealing with severe depression, much more than my "normal" load. It could be or MS as it is a common symptom and anything can set it off. You might need to go on medication to help handle it. A few things to keep in mind. First, know that your feelings are just that they are feelings, and being emotions, they are NOT rational nor are they necessarily true. Conscientiously you can disagree with them and choose to know your truth. Second, you might need to take medication. Blame it on the MS. It doesn't make you weak, you have a disease. There are a lot of good anti depressants, problem is it might take you awhile to find the one that works best for you. Post your feelings here on this site and get the support you deserve. We do understand better than anyone out there that you may know. Third and last, become your own best friend, be kind to yourself, be good to yourself and never be critical of you. You are a wonderful thoughtful person. Don't put too much on your plate. I wish you all the best ~terry

Toni2142, it's Fancy1959. First and foremost I want to welcome you to this incredible chat room. You have become part of our extended family of over 3,100 members! We promise this chat room I'll always be a safe place for you to come to ask questions, seek information, voice concerns, or simply speak to others who truly understand. And this will be done buy some of the most caring, kindest, and compassionate people I have ever had the privilege of dealing with.

Now on to your question. I want you to understand we are not doctors here so you need to always go to your neurologist or primary care physician if you need medical help or advice. All I can tell you is that DMTs. . affect each and every individual differently much like your MS. Depression is notably higher among MS patients than the General Public. It is a side effect that the this monster loves to rain down on our heads. It's understandable also with everything we go through each and every day.

So my suggestion to you Toni, is to call your neurologist and get in to see him or her as soon as possible. Tell him or her what's going on and I'm sure they'll prescribe medication for your depression. If they diagnose you have depression. The good news is that depression is easy to fight in put in this place with some of today's depression medications.

In the meantime look for the positive things in your life and brighten your mood with your favorite activities. I hope this helps. I can't wait to get to know you better. The more you post and reply to post the quicker we will get to know you and you will get to know us! I am certain there is much we can learn from each other. Until we speak again please take care of yourself. Fancy1959.

Toni2124,

Welcome to the wonderful world of MS and all it brings you. This is not for the timid, it will challenge you in many ways. This group has been a lifesaver for me and (I’m sure) others. We will all be here for you as you go through this and you will be there for us. It takes a village.

I hope you will talk to your doctor about depression, unfortunately it is a common experience for MS’rs. Just remember that there is a lot of love and support for you here.

Craig

Depression has a larger effect (a combination of adverse Brain effects/damage plus the other more typical depression reasons) on people that have MS than even people with other really serious health situations - I was surprised. I have MS and take a med for depression and, in general, I understand that meds can help a lot for fighting depression. Your Dr. will have some valuable input, which may or may not agree with my input, I'm sure. I hope you are feeling better!
