G'day msers

Have I mentioned that I really dislike medical professionals who are somewhat less than accommodating to my desires? Yesterday after cutting my little finger, this particular chap suggested ho would give me stitches.

I politely suggested that was not necessary and he was brazen enough to tell me that stitches were required, at which time I very politely informed him the treatment hadn't been approved by the patient.

Such audacity, trying to tell me what was going to be done. Okay, he did not know what kind of patient I was so I was a little accommodating of his suggestion. Yes, I did give his idea half a second thought before I said: "NO, no stitches glue it, I do not care if it scars my finger, I have two of them".

I knew me, I had a good idea of my options and I knew that I do not like needles. So I stood my ground and was treated the way I wanted to be treated. As you all well know, ms can be diagnosed without spinal taps, trigeminal neuralgia can be treated without any visible cutting. I am sure this is true for many issues. Know YOU, know your OPTIONS. BE an INFORMED and EDUCATED patient. YOU know that you are part of the ms club now, so find out and LEARN about YOUR options. YOU, my friend, are YOUR only advocate who knows everything about YOUR symptoms. YOU are keeping records, YOU can see patterns. I am not now or ever ignore a doctors advice or their recommendations, just that YOU have to pay attention, to learn. to stand up for YOUR WISHES. YOU NOBODY ELSE WAKES UP AT 3 AM WITH THE QUESTIONS IN YOUR MIND OR THE PAIN. Advocate for yourself, for YOUR wishes and YOUR needs. Be strong in this journey, YOU may not think YOU have it, but I will assure YOU. JUST LET yourself find it. It is there. Do not be scared, just wake up every morning and know that YOU CAN, do not question, how or why, just KNOW that YOU CAN, YOU WILL and that YOU DO, because my friend this is a DOABLE condition and YOU CAN. JUST let that fire in you burn a little brighter each moment, find YOUR strength. I know YOU CAN. more importantly, YOU KNOW that YOU CAN.

Most of the time we know what is good for us. Especially with MS, we become research experts. Even before MS, I knew my body very well after spending 63+ years in it. Example: in 2012, after a minor bicycling accident, I probably knew my thumb was broken. Just in case, as my friends loaded up my bike for the ride back in to the start area, I insisted it was just dislocated, I pulled out my thumb and actually reset what was actually a break! We had a regular date with friends at Subway for an afterride sandwich and conversation. My friends that worked there gave me a triple wrapped bag of ice & we made a wrap from one of their towels.. Such great friends. We had lunch and I drove my 5-speed stick shift suv the 45 miles home. Kept up with the ice and by Monday am was pretty sure it was broken. My wonderful Orthopedic doc confirmed the break with an x-ray and I begged him to set the cast so I could hold onto the bike handle bars.. Nope, no riding for me and our group was scheduled for our 360 mile ride down the coast of California in less than two weeks. I still got to go as a ride along support person, even with the cast, I could still change a tube if needed. It was nice having others set up the tent though!

see here is an important lesson for all of US. Just because we are hurt, we never have a reason to stop walking learning and thriving along our journeys. Find another way and get around the obstacle.

I had my pain pump replaced 3 months ago after seven years. My doctor gave me the option of staples or glue with strips 🤷🏼‍♂️. I did the glue and strips and it healed so much nicer👍. You needed to be more careful not to tear it open, but hay I have MS and can’t do as much anyway. The new glue is amazing 😉. 🙏🐾. Ken
