Nice weather here in Ireland, sunny but not too warm.๐Ÿ˜Ž.Heading to Spain in a few weeks. How does the heat affect MS?Any advice would be appreciated.Had Avonex pen injection last night, best advice is to keep taking paracetamol every 4 hours to help with temp/aches & pains.Made mistake last week & stopped meds after 8 hours, flu like symtoms for rest of day & felt awful.fine next day.Hereโ€™s for a lovely summer with long summer evenings๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ€

Hi Curran1970 it must be beautiful right now in Ireland. ๐Ÿ˜Š

The heat does effect alot of us with MS. Me? I can get to the point of feeling like I'm going to pass out. Mostly, it drains your energy levels and you don't feel good.

Try a cooling vest and neck wraps! They work great!

Have a great time!

Well you said the first is to make sure you take your medicine with you and physical take it. And take cold packs. I know you may not be able to do this but try to limit your time out in the heat.Keep your self well hydrated. Oh have FUN!!!!

Avonex always made me feel cruddy, too. The good part was it was just for a day so I planned around that. Took it on a Friday evening so I could sleep during most of the effects. Then, I didn't have to work the next day so that was good, too. Ireland, how beautiful. I would love to see Ireland. Spain, too. Goodness. Enjoy! Yes, heat effects me. When I was growing up, I spent all day in the sun but now I have to have shade or a fan blowing on me. What other people said is great advice, too. I saw somebody suggest once to freeze grapes. Then, take them with you as a snack when you are out on a hot day. They will gradually thaw if not kept in an ice bag but they will stay cold for a long while and offer a refreshing snack. Plus, they are good frozen. Have a great time.

Thanks for your reply, love grapes. Will try them in cool box beside pool.Avonex must be fairly strong to last a week, all MS drugs seem fairly potent.๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ€

Oh how I would love to be in Ireland now. I was there in 2000 and had a fabulous time. As far as keeping cool in Spain, I agree with the cooling vest, neck wrap and would add cooling wristbands. Heat is not a good friend of mine. We just had 2 days in the 90s and my energy was zapped and my mobility was impacted. Have a wonderful trip and please let us know how you fared.

Kinsey,Thanks for your reply.Hope you get to come back some time, your guaranteed low temps & rain ๐Ÿ˜€looking forward to Spain,in a nice area down the coast from Alicante.La Zenia.Have been to this place lots of times, very relaxing & only a 2 1/2 hour flight from Cork airport .๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ€

Have a wonderful time ๐ŸŒž๐Ÿ˜Ž

everyone else seems to have said much of what I would say. Heat affects me a lot especially above 80*F and humidity is just as bad if not worse. I live in Southern California USA. Avonex side affects lasted for 2 days for me, it then went to 3 days and so bad I had to quit taking it. Hope you have a wonderful trip to Spain and you will be able to enjoy as much of it as you want. Stay cool and safe ~terry

Sounds wonderful. Last couple of weeks weโ€™d been in mid-70s and low 80s and I lived outside and loved it.. Well yesterday it made it to about 89 and I got so weak I fell down my steps trying to get in the house. Was so weak I had to lay there a few minutes gaining back enough strength just to get up. Today Iโ€™m hurting and sore all over so be careful with high temps.

Have a good trip.

Someday Iโ€™ll learn I canโ€™t do what I use to. I just had my 1 year anniversary in April so I sometimes forget things. But not my first fall and probably not my last fall.๐Ÿ™ƒ๐Ÿ™ƒ

Everyone else has already mentioned the cooling methods. But make sure you talk to airport security before you leave to see what their requirements are for your cooler for the avonex pens. When I transferred from Italy to South Carolina. The people running the security gates at Venice confiscated my ice packs. But the flight attendants were great. They gave me some plastic bags and lots of ice during the flight to help keep the avonex cool.

Peruzzot, thanks for your reply.I suppose skipping the injections for 2 weekends is not a runner.Seriously considering as the next day is a wipeout,Spain with extra heat could make it very uncomfortable.Hope your having a good day๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ€

Don't skip the injections or it will be as bad as it was when you first started it. I was on avonex but am now on tecfidera and like it a lot better.

My daughter is in Maynooth for a semester of college! She's nearly done, just finals to go, and is hating the thought of coming back to the US. She has really enjoyed Ireland!
