37 years old have had this stupid disease for about 15 years now and relapse free for 5 years. I quit smoking Along time ago and have recently picked it up again Does anyone here think that smoking can cause a relapse just curious on everyone thoughts. Nasty habit I hate that I started again but so hard to stop.

Welcome! I don't know if smoking causes relapses, but I've read that it's bad to smoke when you have MS.

I have heard the same as Iona but I realise that smoking can help you relax. It’s a difficult decision only you can make. Blessings Jimeka 🦋 🍫

That’s a tough one. I know how hard it’s to quit and it’s easy for someone who don’t smoke to say “you need to stop” I just know my neurologist don’t want me to do anything that might compromise my immune (ie., smoking, drugs, heavy drinking and even poor eating habits). Everyone is different and what’s bad for me is different for someone else. With me working in the medical field I do know that smoking can affect your breathing, muscle endurance, eye sight and other things that MS also affect so just keep that in mind and I wish you the best on whatever yo do.

I don't know if smoking causes relapses. I am a smoker. I do have relapses. And I have good days & bad days. As always, smoking is not good for us. It is my only guilty pleasure. It does relax me but it's not my only source to relax. I have the mind set, when I'm good & ready, then that's when I will quit. It's a personal decision. I'm not keen on the patches and drugs that can be used/taken to quit. When I decide to quit, it will need to be replaced with something else I'll enjoy doing equally. When your ready & not due to peer pressure. Good luck my friend!

Hiya t80collins welcome. 😊 All I can tell you is the same thing as I told my Neuro.

Him.. Smoking isn't good for your MS

Me.. MS isn't good for my MS. 😒

End of subject.😊🙃🤣😂

We ALL know the risks, blah blah blah, but it's still legal and a personal choice.

End.

smoking and drinking wine helps me relax. I do know that it does not help with MS but my last 2 MRI's have been great. I wish you the best in whatever choice you make. The CHOICE is yours.

I've never been a smoker but I have family and friends who are former smokers and I know how hard it is to quit. Since you just started smoking again, it might be easier to quit sooner than later. But it's your choice if that's what you want to do.

When I had my heart attack ten years ago I quit smoking. I don’t drink either.

Since then I have heart problems, diabetes, and ms.

Maybe I should restart smoking and drinking. Good luck!!

I'm not a smoker, only you know what is best for you. I have family who went from smoking to vaping, that might be a better alternative ~terry

I don’t know about causing a relapse but it sure isn’t good for you. You should try to stop smoking ask your doctor if they know someone that could help you stop 🛑

Good luck!!!👍

I think smoking can make MS worse.

Hello and Welcome to our family t80collins, from Fancy1959. It is very well-documented that smoking in Ms do not go well together. Smoking can cause MS to accumulate disability much faster than in people that do not smoke so to me accumulating disabilities is the same as having multiple relapses. But then again I'm not a neurologist so please don't take what I say as the gospel truth.

Just a quick note to tell you you have found a wonderful awesome chat room that is a safe place to come and ask questions like you just did, to voice concerns or to simply speak to others who truly understand. This chat room is full of some of the most caring and compassionate people you will ever hope to meet. Make sure you catch up with jimeka, our birthday ambassador and give her your significant details about yourself in your birthday so she can add you to our birthday Club. I look forward to getting to know you. The more you interact with us and reply to post the quicker we will get to know you and you will get to know us. I am certain there is much we can learn from each other. Until we speak again please take care and remember that together we are stronger! Fancy.

I was diagnosed 7 years ago, and I still smoke. I am the only one in my MS circle who does. I have heard different ideas on whether or not it causes relapses. But it doesn't seem real certain what they know. I know it's hard to stop. Hang in, and just do what you have to do.
